Hey guys, Decided to have a go at de-annodizing today and I'm quite pleased with the results :)

After letting the hotlight sit in the solution for about 20 minutes, I took it out and slightly polished it with a scotchbrite pad.

I've heard oven cleaner is a good de-annodizer, looks good though =]

What did you use? It looks awesome! Now just get some mothers or simichrome and polish that sucker up.

Thanks :)

I'm thinking of polishing it but I don't want it to become a high maintenance thing where I have to re-buff it every few weeks.

You could polish and then coat it in lacquer... What did you use to de-anodize it?

You could always anodize it a diferent colour, there are a few YouTube vids on this out there..

I will send PM's to who ever asks about the solution as it is quite a common substance. Just don't want to post it publicly.

I'm interested in finding out if this solution is readily available in Aus....

Not sure why it neds to be told over PM?
I often strip anodisied parts, you just need to make sure you don't get splashed by the chemical, i'e wear safety glasses and gloves.
It is much less dangerous than cleaning your oven with oven cleaner, the mix is much less concentrated.
It's avaliable in highstreet shops in the UK / chemists.

Just a quick Google will give the answer ;-)

Yes I know but I don't want some 10 year old trying to strip anodizing.

you can use lye and water to strip anodizing. a lot of caustic solutions will strip it.

Lye and water have a tendency to eat up aluminum as well as the annodizing best use that special ingredient that won't be so touchy

I user caustic soda, and a rather strong solution.

But remember to proteckt threads and parts that needs a perfect fitting,
this because the caustic "soda eats" aluminum.

I use a "hot glue" gun to protect treading.
