Community Focus Knob - Group Buy - 2 packs left

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

I'm in rhd, it take several

I like the two newest renderings I have seen, the laser one, and the two half circles one kind of looking one

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

You might want to add some information on how to get the cad program to the OP so people can tinker with their own designs.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

After thinking on this a bit more I'm not sure I like the set screw as much. I think Anselm might have had a better idea with the lock nut. Could this focus adapter be two pieces? A focus head like the one's posted and then a machined lock nut, a 2mm thick, threaded disk with knurled edge and a diameter equal to or larger then the focus head. No tools needed and functionality and aesthetics are both maintained.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

I think this is a great idea and I'd get about 5 right off the bat. For size, maybe making them fit the aurora c6 would be an idea because it seems like the smallest super popular host. If they fit the c6, they would fit the guidesman and hotlights and would have a wide range of application that way. It would be rather small, but I think it would serve it's purpose

NetGod3Com:
It does look like that fractal pattern!

Helios:
I included a link to the software, as well as an upload of the current EMS project file.

Regarding the set screw - I think that's a cool idea. I'd really like to push the idea of leaving that out for this first batch though. While testing the waters, I think it's wise for us to try and shoot for simplicity - a one piece design. I'm already a bit apprehensive about the lack of any ability to get this proofed before hand.

The M9x0.5 is a non-standard thread for them. I'd like to not have them drilling two more threads as well - at least this first time around. If it's cool with everyone, I think it would be to our advantage not to overly complicate this first run, and just stick to the idea of making a simple replacement for stock Aixiz nuts.

From the looks of it, we won't have any trouble hitting that 100 or 200 QTY price point especially since we're still just at ~$3 each.

Then, once we've tested the waters with our basic design, it can branch out, and people can make derivations with particular features, size differences, etc? Does that make sense?

I think the info we really need to decide on at this point is:

1) What is a good size? What diameter would have the best shot at being useful on as many hosts as possible? If we take the Jayrob Pocket Mini as a minimum and Moh's hotlights as a maximum, perhaps something that would fir the Pocket Mini without looking absurdly smally on the hotlight, would be a reasonable size?

2) Does anyone have material knowledge when it comes to aluminum? What is "6061 T6" aluminum, and what will it look like?

3) Should we be thinking about adding a mirror buffing finish? What if it doubles the cost?

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

6061 is the alloy. Its very common for machining and is what most if not all custom hosts, heatsinks and laser parts are made out of. Id stick with it.

Thought maybe people could take some inspiration from disc brakes :)

There's a load that might be worth checking out

ya i was gonna do something like that but i got some errors :P

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Ehhh, not 100% sure I like mine, but here it is.

BH: that looks neat!

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Thanks! I made another one too. I like this one better.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

The one with rounded circles won't look like that in the end - because of how the cutters work. The sharp pointed parts will end up not sharp or pointed, but rounded. (Picture a spinning drill bit that is 1.5mm in diameter cutting everything out)

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

I think that maybe what we should do is take a few days, give everyone a chance to play around a bit, and then put forward some proposals, and make some choices, and place an order ? :)

- 6061 sounds like the right aluminum to be using
- Diameter... 24mm? 26mm? 22mm?
- Thickness 8mm?
- How deep do the lens threads need to go?

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

my vote is 22mm diameter.
