Community Focus Knob - Group Buy - 2 packs left

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Maybe with a counter nut.

This would work for sure to secure a lens into a module. You'd have to lock down the lens first and then tread on the focus knob and do the reverse if you ever wanted to adjust it. It kinda defeats the purpose of a focusing knob unless your just using it just for looks. This is a great idea for people who would prefer to set their lasers to infinity and leave them there. I think I'm gonna check my local hardware store for a few.

RHD: I really like your last design with all the open area. It kinda reminds me of car rims. I haven't yet played with this program but I wonder if you could do a design using the laser logo as the cut out.

Neat idea! Let me take a crack at it!

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Know of a higher res version?

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Actually - on second thought, I don't think it is a good idea to use the LPF logo on the focus ring.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Here's an idea for locking it down. Have a set screw that runs from the top to the bottom of the focusing ring. You'd just tighten the set screw against the HS once you set the focus.

Thats not just the LPF logo that the laser sign period that is used all over the place, it would be cool to have 2 of them in a yin-yang effect

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Good point Krogith.

Having said that, there's also the issue of complexity. I don't yet fully understand all of the nuances of cutter sizes, etc, and the individual lines needed for the LPF logo would be under millimeters each:

Dr Evil, neat idea -
Like this? With an M3x0.5 thread for a set screw.

EDIT: for this complexity, we're still only at ~$3.50 each.

Is anyone able to comment on the aluminum specs in my OP? Are they appropriate?

Why not make 2 of them so it looks better?

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

You know - I'm not crazy about the idea to be honest.

For one, it will only prevent screwing in, not out. And for two, it really destroys the aesthetic. Plus - tools needed?

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

It should prevent screwing out too. Metal on metal doesn't turn easily.

That's what I had in mind. Krogith has a good idea too. That will make it look more uniform, even if you only use one screw. That's if the screw isn't long enough to stick out. Hhhmmm, maybe you could use two and insulate them from the rest of the host. That hook up some HV leads. Then you could have a laser taser.

Thx for trying out the laser logo RHD. I think your right that it's a little to detailed for this application. I like the set screw idea very much. You could use a thumb screw instead hex screw so no tools would be needed to adjust. It wouldn't do to much for aesthetics but would add function.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

If you want to cut the lpf logo into the front try making it recessed. I cant really explain in words why that will make it easier to machine but trust me it will as long as you dont mind rounded corners on the ends of the reflections.

Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two :)

Glad this thread is back under way :D

Loving all the ideas that are coming up at the moment, I might have a look at the program when I get a chance and see what happens, I like the idea of a locked focus ring.
