CLOSED! Now Distributing ROUND 2!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

My O-like crown 400mw does this unstable thing as well. Fluctuates anywhere between 300 - 500 mw at any given point. Does get better a bit once it warms up more.

I have a 200 mw 532 laser that only really preforms well when its still cold. 30s duty cycle on that one.

I also just sold a 200mw Lazerer Rifle, that modehops so bad that sometimes there is no laser, sometimes you get two ~5mw beams, and other varietys of horrible beam specs and low power, with the occasional flash of 200mw.

DPSS greens drive me crazy, but I do keep trying cause there are good ones.

I cant wait for the direct greens to get a power boost and a price drop!. DPSS is just not a good combination for handheld, to much fine alignment to screw up.

Yes and you measure with a bluefan LPM I see. relatively low respons time. Imagine what you see on a ophir sensor :p

I you really want top notch DPSS go with cni or something comparable. Most of the time you pay for what you get ;) Like here the HL532-300. You pay 145$ for a laser has sometimes peaks of 600mW which is crazy :p But you cannot expect that will allways perform 600mW. I still like the HL532 laser though :) Good for the money!

greetings,,

Yeah I've seen the same 532 issues over and over. Didn't expect it to be stable. I would be surprised if anyone gets a stable one. Not concerned really unless most get stable ones.

I wonder if the same is true of the lesser powered green pens? As of yet, I don't have an lpm to check, but I did order one of the hl 405 - 500mW, and the lp 532 - 150mW pens. I've been kicking around an lpm purchase, and these last posts are bringing it to the forefront of my priorities. Also, my lasers are amongst the last to ship - I'm wondering if that time/experience in the building process has any impact. Did I not read in this thread that new workers were being trained to fulfill this GB?

Per offroad - mine SHOULD BE shipping today!

Yeah kevin will want a video of an underspec laser.

I would too if I were in his position. I'll take one, and upload it here/youtube, just need to figure out some way to keep camera stable, since I'll need both hands.

@ IE let me know what you want or is really bad. I will foreward your complaint to kevin!

Well, per the GB, and Kevin's promise of it being on spec, I would like replacements. I'm holding off on making it "official" until I can make a video, and the second half of my order arrives.

Infin, my HL300 also does what you described as far as fluctuations. It's all over the place. I posted my peak results and didn't say anything until I saw others test. I'll try to time out like you did.

Instability doesn't bother me at all. I generally keep my lasers to a 60 second duty cycle, except for lpming, and to date, have not seem any stable green lasers over ~300mW. The low power is what concerns me... considering the IR content seems to be in proportion to the total output, and higher when the laser drops in power. Since I'm seeing ~400mW total, and about 130-150mW of IR, the laser is underspec.

The older laser I'm even more concerned about. You'll see on video it takes a while to ramp up to peak, and the peak is definitely a low lower than it used to be, which is a shame.

But diode degradation is a serious concern of mine, since we're supposed to get 8000hrs of 300mw+ operation on the 532mn 300mw laser. If someone could test another laser to make sure this isn't a trend. More and more I need an LMP, soon.

I don't think those numbers, 8000 hours, is really any kind of a"real" figure. Lasers can degrade over time... I've seen it with a couple of cheaper greens, a 405, and a 445. If a laser approaches a 10th of that time, and still works just as well as it used to originally, IMO that would be a huge achievement.

Yeah skylasers HL greens never been really stable. But that is what you get when you et 500-600mW out of such a small laser. But i wonder how is degration even possible? I mean does that have to do with the crystals?

Could be the pump diode degrading, could be a bad driver problem, although not as likely, and it could also be the crystals, possibly just shifting out of alignment. I mean they do warm up, and cool repeatedly with use.

My other 300mW skylaser, from the original gb is still going strong, the results I got on it last night are the best I've even seen from it.

IE said he suspected dergadation in one of his greens. I don't know how stable IR diodes are or if they degrade like some 405's.

They can degrade afaik.

Yeah I've seen the same 532 issues over and over. Didn't expect it to be stable. I would be surprised if anyone gets a stable one. Not concerned really unless most get stable ones.

I don't expect stability at all, just for the power ranges to be somewhat similar from one LPM test to the next, and the peak/average to be somewhat consistent, with the 532nm content being 300mW or higher.

That's an awful lot of IR:eek:
I'll have to test mine when I get home. I thought they were supposed to be filtered:confused:
Anyone else check this?
Going to look on their site as I could have swore they state testing is done filtered.

I believe IR filter is only installed upon request ;)

Yup, no that IR is present doesn't really concern me. I specifically asked for the 50mW lasers to be IR filtered, and they are all IR filtered. For the 300mW, just for as much power as possible.

@Offroad, actually can you ask Kevin how efficient the IR filters are, I mean what % of IR they block, and what % of visible light they pass through.

If the loss in power is 1-3% I think for the future I will request IR filter... if nothing else it makes metering easier.

:D Got my Laser in my hands!

And a cool free gift once again!

Im so happy....

Also this host differs from my Pl650 host :D

It's shorter.... and..

It has a second hole in it under the LED, and it shows a potmeter underneath... pritty cool.
After closer inspection... it looks like there's also a potmeter on my PL650... but the FDA sticker covers it
.

God how exciting!

Says on their site in bold different color that they are tested with IR filtered.
Yeah it looks like the IR filter install is extra. For some reason I was thinking some of them had it.....

Smeer can you do a quick LPM? Blords was underspec.

Offroad any idea what % of units have shipped so far? When do they go on holiday?
I know you're looking out for us. If any of us can help in some way don't be shy:p:thanks:

I got a pl650 from last GB and it does 1000mW a.k.a on spec.. ''Review on first page''
Note as in the review: it does 1000mW with fresh charged cell.
When i switch it now on and meter it, it does in the 750+ range.
This second GB i got the PL520 and it does 59mW :)

That is good. A 59mW green is still very bright.
Okay it isn't a lightsaber but the color is beautiful. A new wavelength is indeed very special.

Did you noticed the PL520 host is shorter than the PL660 or the PL532 ?

Hi Yes, Blord i did notice it... i said it like 2 posts above in all my excitement ^^. It was the first thing i noticed.

I managed to make quick, a couple of photo's between 532 and 520.
520nm is olmost blue! and 532 is olmost banana yellow compared ^^

Sry for the crappy photo's... i'm just too excited ^^

Cheers, Sm.

I'll see if l manage to fire up my fog machine.. but i need to eat first ^^
I opened the package before food!
