Put me down for a dorcy and a heatsink thanks.

Re: UPDATED NEWS: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

I'm sorry for posting it in 2 places.

But yes, they are getting rid of the last 70 ever!

Trying to get these sold ASAP.

Thanks Byrnz :)

Re: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

$14 each for the heatsinks.

It is great news. A full host and heatsink for under $30. That's unreal!

That is correct, although I should point out that the $14 heatsink offered here will be the "original DJR Heatsink" just the round "donut-shaped" heatsink that will replace the reflector in the original flashlight, not the "full-body version". Also, this price is "shipped".

I will post some pictures of these a little later, as I do not have them on my web-site any more, although I intend to begin offering them again soon. They have been requested fairly regularly since I stopped stocking them. It seams they are pretty useful as generic heatsinks for many builds, so I will be bringing these back :)

Thanks to Tom for this great GB, this price is cheaper than I have been able to buy DJR-hosts, even in bulk.

For those newer members, this build was originally made popular by Gregg of StoneTec and our beloved Kenom. The original reason this build was so popular is the original flashlight-driver can be used to drive a BR or red diode. It is a boost-driver, but not the most stable. In my opinion, it is worth the added cost for a Flex-Drive, and more complex heatsink, but in the days before the FD, this was about your only way to make a single-battery BR-laser.

You can read more about the "DJR-Legacy" as well as great directions if you want to try the original-driver: http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/red-diy-dvd-laser-burner-26426.html
(original thread by Kenom. This was a classic-tutorial with videos)

Here is the original thread from when I built one of the first DJRs with a Blu-Ray installed, Although Hemlock Mike had built one earlier. It seams strange to brag about building a BR-laser putting out 15-20mW, but this was before Flex-Drives and PHR-diodes, I was really proud of this at the time. Some good build-info and history:

The original thread your referring to is here Dark_horse

Is just my opinion but I like the unanodized version better than the anodized. While the anodized looks good poking out the top of the head, the anodized layer decreases thermal transfer from the module to the heatsink. by stripping the anodizing off with Lye, you can still leave the anodizing on the top, but clear off the anodizing where it's not needed.

I like the un-anodized heat sink better for the Dorcy Jr. It "matches" the host more.

Peace,
dave

Yea that's why I asked about just anodizing on the top, because the anodizing inside would limit conduction.

Re: UPDATED NEWS: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

Thanks Barry, awesome to see you posting in here. We've already got quite a few that want HS's ;]

Re: UPDATED NEWS: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

These heatsinks will likley be un-anodized as I will be moving my anodizing set-up this month. Just an FYI.

Hey Tom, could you put me down for 1 Dorcy Jr ?

Re: UPDATED NEWS: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

Hey Barry, sure thing man, added to the list.

I need to get these sold, lol these are the last EVER dorcy juniors to be sold... there is 70 left in the factory, and they won't be selling them after these 70 are gone. lol.

Cheers,

Tom

Re: UPDATED NEWS: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

Hey Tom:

Put me down for one and a heatsink. Especially since they're not anodized.

How many do we have ordered already? Should I start getting excited/anxious yet?

Re: Dorcy Jnr GB - $15.00 Shipped

People!

I've just spoken to a rep from Dorcy - The Dorcy Jnr build is now discontinue, Target the #1 buyer is no longer purchasing the unit so they will not longer be built.

There is 70 left in the factory - I am holding a GB to get these sold at $15!!!

I don't want to quote the rep incase I am not allowed, but Mark from dorcy confirmed that there is 70 left and no more after that.

Please click on my signature link and get your order in ASAP - someone buy the last 70!!!

~Tom

interesting....
