Brain Storming: Will you be the next laser pointer designer?

EnergyCoherence, you know what would be interesting? If that tip could pop in and out to help cool the diode during use.

Push in to store it and pull out to use it.

Don't get discouraged Telsa. Your designs are superb as well.

I didn't even realize this was some type of contest. I thought Dino was here just to take friendly ideas, my fault for not reading all the way through. I think Tesla's designs are very nice as well.

That is an interesting idea about the tip. There are so many ways to cool a laser. This link has a interesting active cooling design that looks as if it could fit into a larger host, what do you think? Then wrap this in a copper or aluminum tubular heatsink with ventilation holes at the front and back. The heat would no longer be trapped.

I like that laser engine! How to power it though? (Not technically difficult I guess). They do look like concept mock ups to me rather than industrial modules. They are for running very hich powers output IR though so lots of heat. Not sure were in need of them just yet, but soon maybe! Good thinking, if expensive to produce reliably, IMO.

If you can, I'd like it in all copper pls, thanks.

Interesting, I was wanting to design a rectangular host, to accommodate a led digital voltage meter. I think if a laser had a nice digital display, it would sell like crazy, just my opinion.

all copper , rectangular host, seems interesting:)

I think that would be pretty awesome, but have the section in front of the LEDs be a removable piece and it could come with a bunch of different pieces that would all have different wavelength outputs....that way you could just pop that off, stick on another and voila! Multiple nm outputting product.....in a way at least.

Or have it like a grenade launcher piece, so you can rotate a cilindrical piece and have the diodes all in that piece rotating....maybe more like a six shooter gun.....

Oh! And up to spec, affordable, and great customer service all at the same time.....what would jesus do?

Actually. To me, it seems like an all copper host will be very expensive, and the extra heat dissipated by the copper vs. aluminum wouldn't justify the cost involved.
Unless you are planning on using high-heat diodes (IR or 445nm @ +1W), using an entirely copper host would be a waste. :tsk:

Also, a square (rectangular) host would be interesting, but not practical. As TeslaWarrior said: uncomfortable to hold.

OT: EnergyCoherence, what software did you use to make that design? It looks really nice!

how do you think of carving our name or the words that we like on the host? i like it!

Or tritium inlays....I saw a custom laser host made by Flaminpyro that had tritium inlays on it and it looked better than ANY LASER I HAVE SEEN. I think the arctic host looked lame next to it.

had tritium inlays on it ? sounds great, can you show me the link, and i wanna see:bowdown:

Price is an important factor, if the laser is so filled with semi-useful features that it costs way more than any other laser in the same power-range, I doubt you will get more than a few buyers.

the most important thing is very low divergence with large beam (at least 1cm diameter)

it would be the only laser in the entire world of this kind !

Agreed, but it is unclear whether they are going for high end or affordable. They should at least specify that in the op, if they want anyone to take it seriously.

Withdrawn.
