Great job ARG! Good to see more of these around. I'll be keeping my eye out for one of these in the near future. Are you going to sell some pre-assembled? I'm normally near useless with soldering small things and now that I'm down to just my left hand / arm as useable putting anything together is out of the question. (right handed)

Yup, I plan to sell them pre-assembled. I'm sorry to hear about your arm.

5 weeks would be OK with me as theres nothing wrong with the setup i've already got just like this option as an upgrade. also jerry had talked about this a while ago that in order to make sure the Ophir doesn't drain the battery's it needs to have a way of disconnectiong both the positive and negative to the Ophir (in my case a 3PST switch, 1 for display and 1 for power and negative) will this circuit have this in it? besides that i definitely understand about the box taking quite a bit of time to make it look good. it took me a day or two to cut all the holes and sand them till everything fits nice in tight for the box that my volt panel and everything reside in now. but for this setup I'd be willing to do it all over again. i would just have to figure something out for the button's so i could adjust screen brightness and zero it out.

No need for a switch on each rail, cutting the power to the IC that generates each rail will cut power to the Ophir head.

You can unsolder the switch on the PCB (or reuqest it without switches) and use a switch that can be panel mounted, such as these

or
1pc Momentary Push Button on Off 24V 36V Switch RM507 | eBay
or
1pc Momentary Dash Off on N O Push Button Switch RM35 | eBay

There's lots of options :)

Have you tested all those switches that you linked to...:thinking:
We found that most of those become erratic and useless
after a few days of use continuous use...
All switches are NOT created equal...

Jerry: I have no problems using those switches, even in higher current handling applications.

Sounds like you haven't implemented any switch debouncing code (which should be present on any microcontroller based pushbutton inputs)

Never had that problem with any of those switches, I have used the ones I've linked there. People can buy more expensive switches from digikey if they want, but those cheap ones have worked just fine for me.

Perhaps it's a problem with the hardware/firmware in the laser bee?

Yeah MM that must be it... We just fell off the MCU programming

Hey.. as long as you are happy with them... it's no skin off
my nose...

The only ones that haven't given us any long term problems
are the last red ones that you posted. Those are used in our
top of the line Deluxe LaserBee II LPMs.

Those micro switches seams like they would work perfectly. About how big is the circuit board?

Actually they are not micro switches... They are just inexpensive
Chinese Push Button switches...;)

Yup, the same style as the ones used in the OEM laserbee's.

After going through a few prototypes the V1 is nearing completion.

Features:
  • 3.5W max
  • 0.125mW resolution
  • True curve adjustment
  • Datalogging
  • Screen
  • Displays peak power on screen
  • Zeroing to measure the loss of optics
  • Full back light control
  • Can be used on 9V battery & AC plug packs

All will be released Open Source after I tidy up the firmware, board and schematic.
