ARCTIC HOST feeler! interested? READ

^ ^ Nice. Dual drivers are my new specialty... I'm trying to restrain myself from ordering another 3 hosts because I'm dying to see how far these host can be pushed with the heatsinking capabilities :eg: It's going to be a good year :D

In reality as long as the diode and drivers have a good thermal connection it doesnt take all that much aluminum mass to allow long run times. Practically any host could house a 2W 445nm with good run times (minutes). most people just do not have the drivers sinked correctly.

Agreed, and yes driver heatsinking is especially important when running them at these levels, well past .9A

Just a quick update guys...

I'm working on refinishing the inside of the arctic to fit everything as best as possible while keeping the exterior looking exactly the same. I've worked in a way to make the arctic focusable by turning the external lens. This picture should explain things better...

The lens itself is held in by the focus ring instead of the module itself. The focus ring will be threaded at the same pitch as the aixiz lens (0.5, or 50.80 TPI) This way when you turn the outer ring the lens will move in relation to the diode changing the focus.

The Aixiz lens will be adjustable in the focus ring, that way you can set the lens so that it is focused optimally right when the focus ring bottoms out and cant be threaded in anymore (no more turning the focus ring searching for the best focus distance!)

I still don't have a firm price, I really can't get one until I have the model modified exactly the way I want it. I'll get one eventually, but I want to make sure I have everything set up as best as possible first.

There's way too much wasted room inside this host. It's almost ridiculous....

With that kind of detail I am defendantly In on this GB.

@Bobby
I think that if the host fits a common aixiz lens,

a 405-G-1 would fit easily.

;)

Wow Pontiac, that is just absolutely amazing, I can't wait

Thanks Pontiac for doing this great work for us

Room for extra battery?

Hey, would it be possible to put a different lens like jayrob's 405-G-1 in it?

The black "slug" has the same dimensions as an 18650. Not quite enough room for two. It could be done, but it would be very difficult.

Any Aixiz sized lens will fit in my version of the Arctic. I don't know if it will fit in the original though, the G1 has to get very close to the diode window and I remember reading somewhere that the threads in the original Arctic host wouldn't let the lens get close enough. That is why I cut a thread relief in every heatsink I make :D

Once again sick sick sick sick. This will be my favorite host or hosts for a 445 and a 12x!

Let's not make it more difficult that need-be :) How about "more room for extra heat sinking"? ;)

Cool!

As I understand, the 405 yields more far-end light transmission (at least, the jayrob posts I read seem to show the same laser with higher delivered-power), while the Aixiz is focusable to a tighter spot, so more distance? If that is correct, I'd opt for the 405 for mine.

Very impressive Pontiac, this is what the original Arctic should have been in the beginning! That focus feature is quite slick indeed:gj:

*sigh* $75-100 is really gonna eat out of my wallet. I only have 400 in my bank now, thanks to my mom. She actually just went to the bank, and "borrowed" $500 from me without asking :scowl: .

edit: I will be getting it all back when my dad gets his next paycheck :)

you should update the OP and add all the pics so there in one spot...
