I imagine the world would be alot harder if we could see everything haha :)

Imagine everytime you use a remote control, seeing a red beam shoot out onto your tv :(

LOL them i'm sure there'd be be different technology for that purpose lol.

Haha true, I mean we can "still see" IR light...

I mean, some lasers on the near IR/visible light, if the power output is high enough you will see a faint red dot.

We can always use our cameras

HAHA I'm sure bats/flying foxes wouldnt appreciate this hobby  And yeah i can see pretty high up the spectrum, i have easily seen 780nm at low power. Everyone has different vision.
1 more brain teaser... Is my blue YOUR blue?

I never said I seen 577nm In real life did I?

I said 577nm is considered true yellow while 589nm is golden orange, but people say 589nm is yellow. It's like saying 635nm is red, no it is a red with an orangish tint to it.

Closet you can get to 577 is not laser form but in LED form. You can see it in a laser if you got $$$$$$$$...

As has already been said, stop being nitpicky.

Also as has already been said, it's down to personal perception how you see wavelengths is not necessarily how everyone else see's them.

DPSS lasers are so cool. However, DPSS lasers are like diesel engines. They don't like to get cold. And they need to be warmed up before they are useful.

Completely incorrect.

I have a Laserbtb 532nm (that's considered green) that needs to be hot before it'll even work.

I have a O-like 532nm 176mW that you can either pull from the freezer, or from the oven and it'll do the same power either way. Their stability (or lack thereof) is largely down to the crystals and their quality / manufacturing .

Feel free to add some of mine, or I could take pictures.

Just got off work, so not tonight.

561? 488? two awesome colors...also, you could add the standard 6 lines from argons if you wanted (which i don't know off the top of my head lol!).

cool thread! thanks Blarg :)

Umm i dont think so haha. A wavelength of 16004nm is VERY far outside of any normal light used in lasers (does it even exist?).

You may be thinking of 10664nm in CO2 lasers.

Uhhh... ones I do not see on your list... from memory...

420? (diode)
430? (dpss)
457? (dpss)
480? (dpss)
488? (gas - Ar / diode / DPSS / OPSL)
491? (dpss)
501? (dpss)
510? (diode)
523? (dpss)
526? (dpss)
543? (gas HeNe)
561? (dpss -- My sig? :p)
568? (gas - KR)
577? (OPSL)
585? (DPSS)
604? (DPSS / gas HeNe)
607? (DPSS)
612? (gas HeNe)
620? (diode)
625? (diode)
656? (DPSS)
659? (DPSS)
671? (DPSS)
685? (diode)
694? (DPSS)

Also 635 and 638 come from the same diodes. They are virtually no different in color. 650 is more a blood red.

What's the point of this? :p

Edit:

Also -- HDGamer, 589nm is also yellow. Is golden yellow not a subdivision of yellow? is orangeish red not a subdivision of red? You're being too picky as said.

...also, if your laser is IR filtered, you won't be seeing IR, cold or not.

Note my 593.5nm only shows 532 when its overheated. When it's too cold, nothing comes out. Though all of my cold starts seem to immediately show up orange.

The point is to just list all the colors you can get as pointers/modules for people just getting into lasers. That's why I have pictures of all the colors.

Ahh, well for things that are built into pointers...

Add 488 (so many people have argons), 561, 671, and 685nm

You may be thinking of 10664nm in CO2 lasers.

Somebody else said that wavelength, I also think they meant 10664 for co2 lasers. I was just saying I had never heard of 1.6 micron wavelength lasers. 1.06 and 1.6... I see where a mistake could be made.

honestly this is a fantastic tool but wouldnt it be better to review wavelengths people are actually going to get as beginners? i mean who in the hell is going to start the laser hobby off with a 2,000 dollar laser? a tool thats lists the 3 most common wavelengths (405, 532, 650) and the pros and cons of each, would be more beginner based. this is just listing wavelengths most dream of but never see themselves.

Countered it. I didnt see ANY reason for NEG rep... I saw a few posts which probably deserved some green, so.....
