aixiz Module springs

Anyone know where I can get a replacement Aixiz module spring?

A hardware store? They are just springs. They are not anything special. You just need to find one that is approximately the same diameter as the lens nut. You can stretch them or cut them down if the length isn't right. If you know someone that has done the Dorcy Jr. build, the part of the spring that gets cut off is perfect after it is stretched out a bit.

Peace,
dave

Do ya think homedepot will have a box of assorted springs to pick and choose from. I'll check there.

You could find them there most likely. I have quite a few extra springs if you want to order something from my site I wouldn't mind sending some extra springs or whatever with your order.

thanks,
Kendall

Let me know EXACTLY what you need ie; length, hole diameter, Meredith, AIXIZ, or Other, & how many you need, plus your Address Info. via PM, & I'll help you out, no charge..................... rob

I've tried something DIY on this.
Take one of those ballpens apart and extract the spring.

Then use two pliers to und tangle the spring.
After u get a more or less straight wire you just wrap it around the shaft of a screwdriver to
regain the shape of the spring (of course with a bigger diameter this time).

This way you get a not as nice as the original looking spring but a much tighter one.
It will fit just as well and will keep the lens in place in a way you won't get it out of focus as easy as it was
before.

I ordered some Aixiz modules direct from Aixiz which arrived 3 weeks ago (3/12/2009).
The springs are much narrower than with some DX modules I got (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5914).  See pic.

In fact, the Aixiz springs are so narrow, they could go into to the side of an open can LD and destroy it and also obstruct the back of the lens, whereas the DX springs are confined to the edges and work much better.

Does anyone know if Aixiz changed their springs recently, or were they always this bad?

I received an order of AixiZ modules within the last three weeks.  The springs appear to be the same size they have always been.  They are 6.7mm dia. x 14mm length.  Is yours smaller than that? It appears that it is from your picture, but perspective sometimes suffers in 2D

I compared it to an older Sure module spring.  The Sure is 6.3mm dia. x 10mm length.  Is your smaller than that?

My order before this one arrived without any springs.  They had to be sent later.  Maybe they are having supply problems.

Peace,
dave

i recieved an order a while back and had the same problem they had "accidently" shipped me the wrong springs e-mail them they will make it right ;)

My AixiZ springs are 5.10 mm O.D. x 9.90 mm long
My DX springs are 6.83 mm O.D. x 14.88 mm long

So it looks like these Aixiz springs aren't right.
Thanks Dave, that helps a lot.

The also shorted me a lens.  I emailed them twice, and no reply.  I may have to give them a call...
Thanks for the info.

I try to eliminate the Aixiz springs where possible.

They have to be cut for the new short FL lenses anyway (which makes them sharper and more abrasive).

Metal against metal scraping in the vicinity of the two lenses will cause many artifacts in the beam.

Use Teflon tape cut to the proper width to take slack out of the lens assembly.

Keep the lenses clean !

P.S. I do have several extra Aixiz large springs i have accumulated.
