6W Triple diode laser

It's all assembled, one one diode is lasing though, continuity is good. The drivers are all hooked up in parallel, is one driver sucking all the current?

Only drawing 2.2A at 8.4V Should be drawing 3.5A+

Hum, that's weird! sure hope you can figure it out because some beam shots would be great!!

The other blue diode is lasing now, no idea what happened. Turned it on and it put a mark on my beam stop :(

Think I found the other problem, the xdrive on the red is singing to me :shhh: luckily I have a replacement on hand.

By singing you mean that high pitched ring or whine?

I had a linear do that to me the other day. What causes that?

No idea, I wish I knew. Don't know why it would happen on a linear, on a buck driver I assumed it was just a problem with the switching IC. Maybe it's something else entirely?

Just listened to it again, it's kind of like a high pitched sizzling.

It sounds like coil-whining or a smd cap going crazy. Are you aware about any indifferent case polarities or such of your diodes; maybe the red is shorting everything out..?

Never had SMD caps go crazy on me :D The red can't be shorting out because when I put my power supply clips directly on the driver input it will lase, but make an even louder whine.

Better stop playing with it before I bust a 75$ diode :p

Hi ARG, Sigurthur, Phenol and Cyparagon if I'm not mistaken (my brains not so good) Had a discussion about switching noise or switching transients I believe. There apparently is a well known mechanism which causes the sound. I tried to find the post but I couldn't find it. Hope this helps.

I use 2 drivers on my duel diodes lasers, you my need to use 3 drive one for each diode

Yeah, the handhelds drivers aren't made to run diodes in series or parallel, I've got one driver for each diode and the driver input is connected in parallel.

All systems are a go. This is one scary build, really over my personal power limits; I don't feel comfortable turning it on. :shhh: 6W in a handheld is too dangerous, it sets anything it points at on fire.
Needs a touch up on the alignment, then I can get some pictures tonight.

5.35W from the blue, I was getting 700mW from the mits after optics.
Safe to say this is a 6W+ laser. I don't feel comfortable metering the combined power on my Ophir, I can't defocus the beam and it's pretty tight.
