470nm diode

Just send it to Aryntha - you can't go wrong. Lets figure this out.

If it's 470, you could set yourself up reselling these for a bit of a markup, and use that to help fund your project. This is a no-loose situation - just get it tested already.

If you send it to aryntha, he'll just send it to me because I have that spectrometer (and it's safer to ship a diode laser than it is a spectrometer :p). heh It's kind of a co-ownership thing, but hopefully in the near future it will be moot since I still have plans to move to denver whenever I can get all my ducks in a row.

An easy test if you have 445 available though.. is to just compare the two. 445 will look noticeably violet compared to 470... My guess is still that these are the single mode 450nm diodes though.

Well, once again my Chinese contact sent me an email reiterating that the laser should be 470(+-5nm). I'll be sending it to qume tomorrow to get a more definitive reading.

Let us know when you can send it... This'll be solved after this; and, trust me, nobody will be walking off with your diode. The whole forum is watching the thread, and peoples' reputations are on the line -- there's basically no risk unless the mail eats it. (unlikely.)

Yeah i'll check it for both wavelength and power when I get it, and it will probably be in the mail back to you the next day.. PM me what part of the country your mailing it from ablaze, so I'll know about when to start looking for it in the mail.

If this turns out to be 470nm for real, it's interesting, but it'll never have the perfect beam specs of a DPSS 473nm. :yabbem:

More affordable though. Which unfortunately matters for a lot of us. And way more efficient.

I've put some money aside if this turns out to be a 473 diode. Can't wait to see the results!

This one cost me $200. I can get a better deal if I buy more at a time.

Sure. Would be in for one but damn, my hands would sake if I were to solder on the damn thing! Soldering having the thought that it's a $200 diode would surely not help at all :P Maybe we could do a very big group buy of say 100 people/diodes so we can achieve a huge discount :D

I think these are 'modules' I.e.. housings, lenses and drivers all in one.. Not 'raw diodes'

:P when/if we get to that point I can inquire further, and I'll work out some kind of good deal on a group buy for readers of the forums. The supplier might well be willing to sell the raw diodes.

As rhd said earlier, any kind of actual talk about a group buy before I know exactly what I have would end in disaster.
