Off topic but not thread-worthy question:

How does the Casio A130 Projector create a full spectrum projection with 445nm lasers? Why would they use both lasers and LEDs? You'd think that they'd have green lasers and red lasers in them too.

This projector uses 445nm laser for blue, red LED for red and phosphoric wheel that gives green light when illuminated with blue laser.

Cause green and red lasers of the same power required for match the blue one, can be insanely high-cost .....

Well so were 445nm diodes until there was a reason for them to be mass produced. Hmm, pretty odd way of making a projector. I might have to check it out. I hate the POS projector I have right now.

I'm still patiently waiting for the 635 diode to make it into a projector. Mitubishi and other companies have 635nm diodes and others close to that wavelength on their websites and they are listed as for projector or something similar IIRC.

Then we need green, yellow, and orange diodes and we'll have a box of crayons

Right when I try to stop spending so much cash on lasers, these things come out!!!

I think $2500 might get you 100mW of 473nm in a high quality lab module... if that. Now, realize that this can be put in a hand-held because of it's relative simplicity (as long as it's a standard 5.6mm or 9mm diode). How much is a 30mW 473nm RPL? Like $1200 bucks? So for just a hair over twice that you get over 10 times the power. Sounds good to me

High powered blue LEDs are how those "white" LEDs shine white. The blue hits a phosphorescent coating that creates the remaining colors. The red LED may even be used just to correct for what the other colors of the wheel produce for a fuller spectrum. These blue lasers may actually end up being the driver behind very high intensity white lighting at low powers.

I'm more than halfway there now, I have a yellow, a blue, a purple, a green, and a red. Now I just need an orange!

But from how I understand it, orange wavelengths are still really expensive and hard to find (also usually low mW's).

But I know you will complete your collection soon enough...

lol@the tags. I definitely have to sell some stuff.... has anyone tried to push these things above 1.5watts in a silver TEC host or something? I want to see the absolute maximum these things will run at, before they just melt.

Pretty varying results from what I've seen. Such as Jayrob's being 4.03v @ 640ma. Then spyderfire is getting 4.32v @ 1.4A :undecided:

There is a possibility of , how Dave and Hmike said it, multiple batches from different sources, which can have different qualities and capabilities.

We do need to keep an eye out for that, indeed.
