405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

Yeah, that is the price I am paying for the first batch. The first batch will not be sold. Just tested and used. Some will be sent out for further testing.

AFTER they are tested, and IF they work well, we can order more of them. That is why i am asking here how many people WOULD be interested IF the lenses turn out well. If enough people order, the price should be lower, than what I'll be paying for the first bacth. I won't know the final price until i know the number of lenses, people would want. I only posted that price as a reference, so people would know approximately what to expect.

They are expensive, yes, but the Meredith is even more expensive, and the custom ones are designed for Blue Rays. A 405nm lens from ThorLabs costs ~$100.
I don't think any factory would go make lenses to custom specs for less than this... Even their standard lenses are not cheaper. I was actually expecting a higher price. I thought the first batch would cost me up to $900 for 30 lenses!

I'm interested in one for now. Not sure about 405nm or multilayer, maybe when the results come back. I might buy more with those results too.

In that Deal Extreme red stage laser they sell, they have a metal lens element that fits Axiz modules just fine. Would it be possible to have them fit into those?

There are no lenses available now. And there won't be any lenses available at all, unless the first batch tests well. The first batch will not be sold either.

If the lenses test well, and enough people are interested in them, i will order another batch made for everyone interested. I will not be selling any lenses, i would only be ordering them for whoever wants them.

The lenses will come in a plastic lens nut. The front face will be supported with a soft o-ring, and a retaining ring will hold them in. The metal nuts with the glass lenses have an ID of 6mm. The custom lens has a diameter of 7mm. It would not fit in there, and neither is it necessary. If the lens only had 6mm dia and the same FL, the NA would be lower, and there would be a danger, that it would not collect all of the light.

Alternatively, you can get just the lens (and the supporting o-ring) and put it into a plastic lens nut yourself. In that case, you would only pay for the lens itself. But you'd have to be VERY careful during assembly. The lens should not be touched with fingers.

I'll probably get one or two of the 405's maybe one of the broadband coated ones as well pending funds at the time of order.

Igor, I just made a point about what would be reasonable. For example: if they cost more than a diode and doesn't double the output, then it doesn't make much sense to me. ;)

I'm still interested, put me on the list for two 405nm.

:-?The logic of that escapes me. :-?

Peace,

its like the logician on ponty python and the holy grail ;D

If she weighs less than a duck, she's a witch!!!

Put me down for one for now, but I'll definitely get more depending on test results.

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

if the price is right(pun intended :P ) i might be down for 5-10 of them.

EDIT: for 23-24$ each i might only be able to get 2... :'(

I don't yet know the final price. All i know is what i'm paying for my lenses (first batch).

The final prices in a potential GB could be lower, but i won't know that until i know how many lenses we would order. This is the only reason i even started this thread - so that if the lenses turn out great during testing, i can ask the manufacturer for a price quote, based on the number we would order...

I only posted the price i'm paying for the first batch, so that people would have an approximate idea of what to expect, and base their decision on that.

EDIT: I edited the first post, to make it clearer, what is going on. I will not be selling the lenses from the first batch here. They are all spoken for already, and have nothing to do with a potential GB - nothing, except providing info on their exact performance.

After they are tested and verified, i can order more of them for anyone who wants them, as long as there is enough interest for another production run. The potential second production run is what this feeler is about. The lenses can be made in two weeks after they are ordered, and since it'll take two weeks before i get the "sample" batch as it is, i decided to start a feeler now, so that it would go faster. GBs take way too long already.

Once we know exactly how they perform, anyone, who expresses interest here, will have a chance to get whatever lenses they want from the second batch.

Depending on the price, and how well these work, I would be up for 1 or 2 of these!

and I'm assuming that they will be available already mounted in the lens holder correct? I wouldn't have to mount the bare lens in anything?

There are two options: Lens mounted in the plastic lens nut or just the lens (and the O-ring required to support it).

If someone wants to mount the lens in their own lens nuts, they can do so, and save some money (only pay for the lens). They would get the lens, open up their lens nut, discard the acrylic lens, put in the included O-ring and lens and put the retaining ring back in place. The retaining ring should be cut open from behind first - cleanly and completely to the edge, with a scalpel. The lens should be handled carefully. If you smudge it, you have to clean it, and you risk damaging the surface. Since they're glass, they will be more resistant to scratches, as well as solvents, but it's better not to get them dirty in the first place.

If someone wants the lens mounted in the lens nut, i can do that as well, but it would cost a little more. I am hoping to receive just the nuts without the modules, so i wouldn't have to discard entire AixiZ modules.. It would cost less this way.

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

I would probably go for the pre assembled lens

so, put me down for 2

although this prompts me to go down and experiment with some lenses...

Igor,

Mark mine as preassembled please :)

This is gonna be good!

I'll take ONE 405nm AR coted lens. And if the multilayer AR coted lens would be the best lens to use for 650nm. Then I'll take ONE of those as well.

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

I'm in for one. As I understand it it can direct replace the Aixiz module lens? Is that correct?

Jules

EDIT One for the 405nm coating
