Just wondering because I was trying to pop some balloons hanging from our ceiling in our showroom (dark blue and black) from about 10 feet away and no matter how I adjust the lens they will not pop, but if I get within 2-3 feet it will pop no problem.

Never use the same color as the beam... it reflects the energy of that frequency the most and therefore doesn't absorb it.

Black should be fine though. Red is good too.... Whites and yellows etc will reflect too much.

10 feet away, you need to have a steady hand and balloons like to move a bit in the breeze of subtle air currents in the room.
Anchor the balloon between something, then brace your hand on a chair or something.......

This is similar to sharp shooting a bullet at a target..... except it takes a second or so to penetrate.... if the spot moves, it cools instantly.

You can pop up to 30 feet or so if you can hold it steady for long.... at those distances, you will have a nice thin rectangle... it won't go to a perfect dot at those distances...... the nature of multitude diodes.

My laser stopped working on Friday, so I opened up the host to investigate. I can see why Yob had so many problems with people breaking their lasers because they were curious and opened them. The leads between the driver and the diode are super short and the module needs to be removed from the heatsink for disassembly. Anyway, somehow a wire broke off of the diode. I soldered new leads between the diode and the hosts stock driver with FlaminPyro's wire and heatshrink and now it's working great. I also made the leads much longer so there aren't any more disassembly problems.

On another note, if you are no longer running this build, will you still give technical assistance, Luke?

Well, I had to buy a new lense from Odicforce as I managed to uncrew the supplied one right before siginging on to a new ship. The supplied one happen to have two lenses, an O-ring and a tread ring.

Anyway, that is my fault, and any damage to the diode window from the evaporation of the standard azdiz lense is something I have to accept.
