You don't have corner laser shops in your country?

Great Cyparagon, just rub it in why don't ya...:undecided:

The hobby laser situation here in Europe quite bad when it comes to finding argon lasers, and no...we don't have corner laser shops...

what model is this laser in the start of the thread? It looks to be running well

That's a LASOS LGK 7872 ML02 (or ML05)

It is a 40mW multi-line.

You can find these on eBay from time-to-time. The prices vary widely (like most used gas lasers)

;) or you can buy one from me (with a PSU), a rheostat controller, and a fan for you to wire up, for $350, plus shipping ;)

Peace,

Hmm, Dave, the Lasos Multiline you're selling has a glass end bell/visible plasma?

....really tempting...

Huh. I have a few EOL NEC tubes with glass end bells that look just like that. They're too old to lase, but you still can see the plasma. Do the lasos tubes run on a really low voltage (~85v or so if I remember right) like the NEC tubes do?

Yes. It is the same model as the one Jason shows in the pictures above. Although I cannot tell if it is an ML02 or an ML05, the only difference is the pinout. Mine comes with a Spectra-Physics PSU (model 263-A; 100-240V) and a 110V fan for the top of the box. It is putting out 42mW and eight color lines.

This is my shop fan. The fan that comes with the unit will be a "normal" height fan. You will need to add a cord to the fan to plug it into the wall. The PSU will also come with flying leads so that you can install the plug you want/need.

The "seeming" double spots are camera jiggle. The spots are TEM00. You can see them in the smaller picture below this one

You can see the TEM00 nature of the spots here. It is just a bit small to see all the color lines.

Yes. The main power out of the PSU is 100V.

Then it's different from these NEC glg-3030 tubes. even new, tube voltage maxed at a 90V drop. Very few PSU's like running that low a voltage. 100-110V is pretty typical for every other small air cooled ar-ions.

Kind of reminds me. I need to dig out my ALC-60x heads and get rid of them.

The OP never states what kind of optics it has. That determines the wavelength with an argon-ion. If it's single line, it's most likely 488nm. 515 and 458 are also available but less common. If it's multiline, then it's all of the above, plus some. How many lines depends on the tube current and gas fill. Older tubes won't lase on as many lines.

Something I think is amusing is that ALL Argon-ion manufacturers call 458nm violet but we call 445nm blue. :D

Fast forward 8 years....

Does anyone know the specs on the main ceramic capacitor on the starter board for this laser? I just pulled the laser out today for funsies and never replaced the starter cap I mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

I did, however, remove it. SO now I have an open circuit and can't start the tube at all.
