I don't know you very well, I mean, I've seen your posts and all and you seem really cool.
I feel terrible that such bad things happen in the world so often. I hope you get back up there soon, I know you will... People always do. You are intelligent enough. I don't know exactly what happened or why you failed your course classes, but you are intelligent. I can only imagine how you might feel, just don't be too hard on yourself whatever it is.
You're in my thoughts Kenom, I'm sure you'll make it out okay soon enough.

sadly I can't get on disability for depression. They were kind of leary about providing me assistance in the first place and it was not good when I dropped the ball.

Hey Ken, I have no doubt in my mind that you will get past this...

Try to remember all of the good stuff about yourself. Stop beating yourself up because everybody messes up once in a while.

Hey, don't forget who brought us the awesome Kryton!

Here's the saying that applies... 'You can't keep a good man down'

So we're all pulling for you...

Damnit Kenom, I didn't know your situation was so serious. Most of what I want to say are already said by the others. All I have to say is good luck and I really hope you succeed in what you are aiming for.

I really am sorry to hear this, Ken - I know we haven't had much contact, but your posts have always been interesting and worthwhile, and your services to the community invaluable. I don't know how the benefits system works over there, what kind of a fall-back is there for you?

Have you considered opening up your designs for any of your products, in return for a "licensing fee" or donation on the part of the builder? I don't know if an honours-based system would work, but if it did, it'd be a small but constant stream of income. Maybe a suggested donation of $25 per build that uses your design? Many people would have local machinists able to build from drawings, and if someone in the future wanted to do a production run similar to yours, then they take the financial risk, and you get the license fees nonetheless. For the Kenometer, you could sell the schematic, PCB layouts and component values, firmwares and similar, in return for a donation that helps towards your R&D costs. That way, more people benefit from the design, you make profit, have no financial outlay, and derivative designs become much easier, especially if derivatives are sold/made available in the same way. For example, my LED torch derived from the Kryton style works very well indeed, I'd have been happy to pay for the original drawings and plans, it would have made compatibility with my Kryton bodies easier (as-is, I used a wider ID for the driver section, and my batteries are a loose fit compared with the Kryton's slick fit), and for the Kenometer, if someone wanted a portable one, they could buy your plans, make the modifications, and re-submit them to your site, so that anyone could build a KenoPortable after buying the original design and modification.

The only way this would be negative is if somebody started selling the design en masse without donating, or made many after only paying for one copy of the design - though I'd hope that the forum would boycott anyone doing this. Perhaps an automated list of who has donated, and how many copies, would ensure that the system works. I'd be happy to put this together for you if you think the scheme would be a good idea, but I'd understand fully if you wanted to keep the designs entirely your own (As I understand it, MM made the firmware for Kenometer?).

Let me know if this'd help you.

Truly sorry to hear that, Ken. My thoughts are with you. Hope eventually things will turn out for the better and you get back to your passion for lasers!
- Good luck and don't let this eat at you.

Hmmmmm....:undecided:
man that sounds sweet.... been there done that...

As a the designer of a similar product... there is no way that I would ever
hand over our Intellectual Product (ie Schematics... Source Code...etc.)
on the promise of a Donation and the honesty of the Buyer whom I
may or may not even know...

With most people connected to the internet it would only take a few
days for all our Intellectual Product to make it around the Globe...
and there would be nothing to protect us or get that property back...IMHO

@ FP.... yeah... that could work too....

Very sad to see you go Ken. A HUGE loss to the forum this is. I know how it feels, I failed out of college last year and now I have a ruined credit and student loans calling me all the time wanting their money back, thankfully I am still able to live with my parents so there is no threat of me being in the street. Sure has showed me how tough it is to finds jobs though, and I pray that you are able to find one very soon so you don't have to live in the streets. I only wish there was more I could do to help, I'll see what I can scrounge up to help with the donation, the least I could do. Insha'Allah things will get better in time and you will be able to make an epic return to the forum, we're all certainly pulling for you!

I know I already posted my condolences in this thread.
I just want to point out that you dont have to become homeless, unless you let it happen. Billings Mo is a pretty big city, you should be able to find a job, even if it's at a fast food joint. Use the local paper or craigslist.com to find a room for rent. I looked at the craigslist in your area. I found a few adds with people looking for room mates. $350 pr month is what they start out at. Working at even a mcdonalds can cover that.

Just start doing all the foot work now. Dont wait until it's too late. Call every one you know friends family even your enemys. Dont be afraid to ask for help. Even if you dont ask evrey one you talk to for help. They may offer you help, by just knowing your situation.

I wish you all the best kenom. I'm still going to wait until you get squared away. So you can pull off your kryton group buy. I know you can pull it off someday soon:)
