I see you have not commented on the terrible safety advice (or lack of)

Rob

I have always held and stated the view that anyone who has the intelligence to tackle laser projects like mine or those done here, which require a pretty good amount of electronics experience, are knowledgeable enough to realize the dangers associated with any laser pointer including the ones you can buy at dollar stores. Also, I personally do not know of anyone who has suffered injury at the hands of a laser pointer of any power.

Well if you don't know anyone that has been hurt, that means no-one can!!

You have made lasers accessible to everyone. you can not honestly say that you need electronics experience to do the "mini mag" build.

Also, you yourself don't seem to realize the dangers, as you have people pointing lasers at their faces in your videos. Would you say that you have electronics experiance?

Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups.

I never said no one can be hurt did I? Did you read what I wrote?

I have not made lasers accessible to everyone. I did not invent lasers. If you have ever extracted a laser diode successfully from a DVD drive carriage than you know that is not an easy task to not only get it out but do it without destroying the diode. And that's only the first step of the project.

I have never pointed a laser at anyone's face. What you have seen in the only video I ever made that had me point a laser at a living thing is the reflection of the laser off of the cigarette. I was the one poiinting the laser and it was my son who had the cigarette in his mouth. Do you really think I would endager my son? I also warn of the dangers of lasers in that same video.

I'm still waiting to hear real stories of people harmed by lasers. I know they must exist because lasers are and can be dangerous. I just don't have first-hand experience of anyone being harmed. After all, with all the horror story warnings here you think there would be someone.

Gee thanks Kevin. So kind of you to all encompass ANYTHING I have done. Have you seen every single one of my 90+ projects and tried them out? Maybe you should get some more information before you completely discredit me.

Yeah man, that bug-sucking gun was hardcore. :na:

Wrong.(about the first step of the project, that is.)

Sorry kip but I don't understand how that is a reflection off of the cigarette:

I'm not gonna totally flame you out, your videos convinced me to get a subscription of Make Mag which I'm glad I did so kudos to you. I just don't agree with you on that point. At about 2:15 you can see the beam going past the cigarette...

...It takes very little intelligence to build a laser, with drivers.
I did it when I was 12.
12

Hey look: Little 12 year old me, and a youtube account.

YouTube - Extremely High Powered DIY Laser

Your tutorial, by the very nature of a tutorial leads the layman to believe that these steps are the only required, and that precisely following them will produce a reliable, or at least usable, result.

This is why we laser enthusiasts hold such animosity twards you.
When even a small quark or wrongdoing emerges visibly in a person's character, others are faster to jump on any other flaw.

Back in the days, (early 2007ish I think), it was your video, and others such as the 5mW 512nm pen pot mod that got me started.

...You should at least inform people that there are much, much better ways to accomplish the ordeal of building a laser.

:)

Me for one, and another 2 or 3 I've seen here. Just search. One guy posted the actual picture of his burnt retina. Why its not more common is because most of us have goggles, and all of us preach eye safety unlike yourself. 405nm has short enough wavelengths that it burns most things quite easily. If it can burn wood, what do you think it would do to eye tissue? I cant believe you pointed a laser a your own sons face without goggles. This is truly irresponsible, and why you are getting flamed for the most part. It's not a toy moron.

Edit: Get past your ego, and admit to yourself you are wrong. In all your laser tutorials the first thing stated should be to get proper eye protection when working with lasers. I think the community would cut you some slack. It would be easy to edit your videos to include this statement.

Well said T_J....

Just the thought of him putting his own son in Harm's Way without
proper eye protection makes be cringe....
I wonder how many other children he put at risk with that irresponsible
lighter project demonstration... and just to make a few bucks...
It really seems to show what KipKay is all about... the Mighty Buck....

I would slap a cigarette out of my sons mouth at any age before I would light that cancer stick with anything.

^yeah wtf lol
and on top of that point a BR laser in his face
what a douche

LOL he does have a point...

@kipkay
you could have angled it away to either the left or the right so It wouldn't be pointed at his face yet still pointing at the stick of cancer.... Also letting him smoke is actually putting him in harms way... So you kinda contradicted your self...

Also I kinda find it funny how you told people to tell them that you sent them, yet you have a horrible reputation here.
