Dave, Thanks for your help! I'm really confused atm... I really need these as hosts... so using them as flashlights are not exactly an option. We have payed for the original DJr's has anyone contacted Dorcy to see if they can do anything for us? The 11 originals can not really cover the 28 we ordered. Dorcy is a pretty big company and mass produce their own torches, can't a run of 17 extra originals be done... after all they provided a sample of their product and did not supply the same product as the sample.. (btw yes I understand Dorcys situation... but its the principal) I'm happy to pay for shipping to and from Dave in exchange for the originals. Therefore Barry would not have to make new heat sinks and everyone else is happy.

-Adrian

As Dark Horse wrote above, he will NOT be able to do this at this time. CharlieBruce is working on one and I mailed a host off to Ehgumus yesterday so he could look at designing one.

No one has heard from Tommi for awhile. He was ill the last time he posted. Tommi is the one that has been working with the contact at Dorcy. I do not even know who it was. My total involvement (besides as a member of the GB) has been as a re-shipper to save y'all money. Tommi is in Oz. Unless someone else can find and take over the contact at Dorcy, we are on our own. I am operating at that level for now.

With the above in mind, in order to utilize the heat sink you already purchased from DH, you will either have to find an original Dorcy Jr., find another host that you can use it in, or modify it to fit another host. Many of the older style host are still available. A couple of sources have been posted in this thread. I picked up three at a Target this week.

***********************************************

These next comments are NOT aimed at Bobhaha. They are for everyone. Neither DH nor Tommi could have foreseen this. I know that both DH and Tommi are sorry about how it worked out. However, neither of them could have known, anticipated, or prepared for this change in style. They are NOT responsible.

I cannot even see trying to hold Dorcy "responsible" for this. The model numbers are the same. Heck, it took US a while to figure out the change and we are the ones that are utilizing them! They shipped exactly what we ordered. If someone can get Dorcy to exchange or replace these, we should be very grateful. Dorcy would be doing it to be nice to us, NOT to correct a mistake. If someone contacts Dorcy about this, I recommend that you keep that thought in mind.

I have no doubt that we will still be able to use these hosts. We just need to give Ehgumus and/or CharlieBruce enough time to get something designed. The only real POTENTIAL loss to the members of this GB is the cost of the DH heat sink. Even that will only be a loss if you decide to make it one. If you use the heat sink in another build, you have lost nothing.

Peace,
dave

So do I :p

Ok that is a good point, I understand the situation, but you are right in respects as they do not need to fix a mistake, but rather they could help us out! After all I think the DJrs are a pretty popular host in the laser making buisness. I guess in the mean time we will have to wait and see what the others come up with.

@Asherz could you pm me the email address.. I will see if I can get in contact with him.

Don't worry I will make the heat sink for the new host.;)
also is this the heat sink that people have for the old host that they can't use?

DJR Full Body V2 Heatsink

if so maybe it can be modified for cheap to use in the new host.

I have one of those I can't use, I was considering just sanding it down and epoxying it into the new head, but I'd prefer a neater solution, which is why I'd like to work on a new design. I posted one a couple of pages back, dimensions are measured approximates (mm).

It should be relatively self-explanatory, but the design is meant to be a simple friction-fit into the main handle of the torch, the head section only serves to help pull the heat-sink out - when unscrewed, it pushes up on the "lip" of the heat-sink, pulling it from the body. Feel free to use this design if you'd like, it's all I'd be making on the lathe (and I'd take far longer, my school's machine is ancient). Section marked red is masked with tape or anodisation, to prevent spring from shorting onto body. You could probably use the little black plastic thing protecting the original torch driver to hold the spring in place instead.

The ones bought in the GB were NOT the "Full Body" heat sinks. It is the "simple" one. It is basically a drilled piece of rod stock. It is 22.2mm dia. and 9.5mm length. (with a set screw and a thick o-ring that fits into the groove at the front of the host's head)

I shipped it 1/13, via first class, in a small bubble envelope. From SoCal, it should be there today or tomorrow.

Peace,
dave

I know neither DH, or Tommi are responsible, but Dorcy on the other hand sent us a sample of the old style host? With various pictures of the old style host? To me that would come across as being a misleading sale of items... You don't say your selling one item, then ship a different one, as a company dorcy should be responsible for what they send out...

I'm really not fussed, but I don't think they should not be held responsible :p

No sample were requested or sent. We "knew" what we wanted and ordered them. They sent what we ordered. Dorcy MAY still do something for us. My admonition was mostly to head off an "indignant" contact in which the person "demanded" that the company "make restitution" for their "mistake."

Yes. That is an exaggeration, but it is done to make clear the attitude I am trying to prevent.

Whoever, contacts them, be nice. They have not done anything wrong.

Peace,
dave

Found it. Here you do

Sorry I've been away, I've been and still am very unwell.

I've emailed Mark from Dorcy twice now, only because he sent me a sample of this Dorcy, which was the CORRECT one. Then he sent these ones? I will be talking with him as soon as he gets back to me.

I apologise so much for this people.. I thought this would be perfect... I guess Dave is right, the item number is correct and there is no mistake there, but I wanted the Dorcy's I got as a sample. Not this.

I will try get on here as much as I can, but I've been in hospital a fair bit over the past 2 weeks, so slowly getting there.

Merry Christmas everyone.

:)
