AD, what exactly is that, just a shelter for hikers, or .... something else?
BTW, that's a handsome husky you've got there, love them eyes!

iAurora, that's a good shot of that rainbow, you captured the whole thing! Where was that photo taken at? :)

It's a winter / underground shelter for hikers, it has stove on it, so you can stay over night on winter time :p

We have these scattered throughout the local state forests, we use them often. But yours looks a bit fancier. View attachment 61998View attachment 61999

Washington State parks often have scenes like this. They even have chopped wood for making a fire and for cooking. When I was younger, I often went to many of the state parks to spend the day and cook. We always cleaned up after ourselves. But, always in the summer. I don't know anyone here who is into winter camping.

I can tell by the nail holes that people have tarped off the fronts of these in the winter. The snowmobile trails lead right to them. We have 4 of these within a few minutes of my house, so every summer we host a get together or two at the ones that are easiest to walk to. IMG_0723.jpg

We have the Cascade Mountains here. It is more like mountains in Colorado than the mountains on the east coast. When travelling through the passes in the winter the roads can become quite treacherous. And the temperatures are far lower than where I am on Puget Sound. I know many people like to go snowmobiling, so I guess there are some that might spend the night, though it would not be a great idea to do so.

When I lived in Montana it got down to 45 below 0* F and at these times it was difficult to breath as the cold air hurt your lungs. I can't imagine anyone camping out on purpose during the winter as it was brutal.

Surprise surprise, meant to be visible in the UK again. And it's meant to be cloudy and raining AGAIN!!! :(
Thanks for sharing however. :p

Even if it was a clear night - it's unlikely either of us would see it from the light pollution in the south :p
