CNI no longer exporting >5mW?

Just to clear some confusion, that's a list of exporters. Someone that buys a laser from a foreign company is the importer which does include its own set of problems.

Ah you're right! That was the wrong term. I've corrected it.

Must have been a lot of people raising hell with powerful and portable lasers for this reaction. :( Tis unfortunate as I don't think a fraction of a watt of light amounts to much, at least when projected greater > 50 meters.
A fraction of 1 watt would be any wattage less than 1000mw. Whether it amounts to much, being hazardous, depends upon how well collimated the beam is and the mw output.

We need an LPF operated CNI reseller in the USA it'd be quite the investment. We would have to offer similar q.c. akin to LG but at prices somewhere between the discount price and the single unit price.

You wouldn't want something remotely approximating Laserglow's "QC" practices. They only "quality controlled" for their own benefit -- i.e. to bin pointers so they can charge outrageous amounts for pitiful increases in power. Even now their prices reflect this practice. Anyway, CNI always ships at or above spec laser pointers, often with power margins far better than any that Laserglow or others ever offered -- and at waaay better prices.

People here were just so used to buying some cheap-ass pointers from Hong Kong-based sellers that they thought they were getting a great deal with "guaranteed" power rebagged CNI lasers. They weren't.

They suggested I try their OEM modules, however, they have yet to give me a quotation on them..

I think Handy Laser is a direct retailer for CNI.

They also sell a 561nm laser pointer I think

^Contacted them awhile back.

They responded telling me they DO NOT sell anymore CNI pens, only labby's.

I just looked at the Handy Laser site. I checked out their 80mW 589nm in a PGL-lll- C host; they are asking $1590.00! That's more than twice what CNI was going for.

The modules went up. Looking for 1300.00 now for them! They're quite a commodity now.

by q.c. I meant send back the ones that are busted/dying
wavelength binning would be cool though 415, 455-460, 505-511 etc

Busted/dying lasers are sometimes sent back. Only CNI makes you pay to mail them back. Under tracked, insured packaging. Something that costs almost $100 to do from the US.

Though either way, CNI barely makes profit from us. Period. The 3 digit price tag lasers we buy are nothing. You realize we are buying their cheapest products? Ever notice that they have multiwatt 589 lasers? 532's in the DOZENS of watts? They have plenty of lasers with 4, 5, and perhaps a couple with 6 digit price tags.

We are NOTHING to CNI.

We are simply someone they DEAL with.

Do you think they give major buyers from them this much crap? I guarantee you that other consumers get plenty of replies, details, all that they need. They probably even get REAL translators. Whereas I'm sure we get interns or something.

The fact remains, we are nothing to them. To them, it doesn't really matter that they can't sell us our >5mW pointers. Why? Because in a couple days or so, they're going to sell off some more $XX,XXX lasers, that half the cost of them alone, would pay off a GB or 3 from us.

Think about it.

PS: CNI does bin a tad bit. They have 4 products from 400-415nm. All the same diode, with the exception of the 405nm line, which has more to offer, they all have the same products ;)

Food for thought:

All of CNI's Products

Q-Switched lasers

532 + 473 + 589/593 RBY systems

More green than you could handle

More 589nm products

maybe some of the feds figured they could lessen the import of these by simply getting the companies to agree not to. wonder if it took a bribe. same with laserglow. hope laserbtb and jetlasers do not follow suite

Stock up while you can :p

Seriously though....

Bloom nailed it dead on, +rep to him. We aren't jack sh@# to CNI when it comes to sales. Honestly, I am surprised they even bother responding to us. For example, you know the B&W tek 473 labbies you always see on fleabay and other surplus sites? Yea, all made by CNI. I don't know what machine they were in, but I do know there were a metric shat-ton made. Imagine the price tag on that contract, and compare it to that 800$ 589 you just bought. No comparison. Look up pictures of their factory. They have rooms with hundreds of retardedly expensive lasers running at all times to test them. We are talking about a frickin row of 200+ 473's. then on the opposite wall, 200+ 671's. You get the idea.

The risk FAR outweighs the possible profit margin for CNI to send us >5mW lasers. I don't think any of us will ever really know just how wealthy of a company CNI is...

/end rant

So yea.

Also, random side note, I suspect CNI has a branch dedicated to making the 808nm diodes that are in all these crapworthy 532 pens. I don't know why, I just feel like they have to be involved with that somehow....But, we will most likely never know the origin of those diodes, or the bonded crystal sets that get glued to them. China is a mysterious place lol....Kinda creeps me out, really.

Wow this sucks I just got into the hobby and I feel it crashing down around me. Though doesnt CNI still offer >5me diodes and modules to us? At least for those of us that can build our own lasers the parts are still available just not prefabricated for you. The days of buying quality built exotic wavelength handheld lasers may be coming to an end but the components to build these lasers are still available. Im sure some of the lpf members here who own lathes and machine shops would be willing to design new hosts etc etc .. the hobby isn't dead but it does seem to slowly becoming more difficult as government's crack down on the existing laws. This new makes me want to drop ten grand right now just to assure I complete the collection I've set as a goal for myself. I just wish I knew more about it and hsd gotten into this years ago. Seems things can only go downhill from here. Im screwed if laserbtb follows suite.. :undecided:

Where there is a will there's a way...

Agreed, how long now has the export of Poppies from Afghanistan, Coca alkaloids from Columbia, and Methylene-dioxymethamphetamine From Norway been outlawed? Despite extreme legal pressures exports continue and prices have even dropped on some of these products. Human ambition and creativity has no limits when adequately motivated. Those of us who have set our hearts on obtaining such dangerous and addictive devices yielding beautiful and exotic wavelengths will have them with little difficulty. Straw man tech and R&D DBA's and third party resellers are two of the easiest methods around existing limitations. I'm sure dozens more creative ideas could be arrived at by a quick brainstorm of the bright minds following this thread. Let not your hearts be heavy, for this is only a vague illusion of a problem put in place to deter the less motivated and intelligent light addicts in the world.
