HI Im new to the forum! Ive been hanging around for a while and thought Id say hello.:yh:

I also have a couple of questions regarding my lasers.

The first is a 445 Aurora C6 build I finished a while ago. I got the diode and flex drive V5 from DTR (thanks). The laser is great and as the drive is set to 1.5 A I have heat-sinked it to a copper coin, with good thermal contact, to the host. I have however noticed that the laser turns off automatically after runs of 45+ seconds and was wondering whether this might be due to the board over heating or the batteries cutting out. I have Ultrafire 3600 18650's which are protected and apparently of much lower capacity :p...I have read in other posts that the time to peak output of the 445 nm diodes can be up to a minute, so could it be that the current draw starts to peak and the batteries shut down? If I switch off the laser and immediately turn it on again it works normally?? The host is usually slightly warm after this, but not hot.

Secondly, could anyone please suggest a host for my green 5 mW Global laser FireFly. I received it as a present, it runs in CW mode and has a continuous duty cycle. The problem is that it is simply a sealed, variable focus, self contained module, with leads. As it is a very expensive laser I dont want to try ripping the whole thing apart to obtain the diode and driver. So, Im basically looking for a host that will fit the 9.5 cm long 1.6 cm diameter module and probably a RCR123 battery. Any suggestions?

I know youve already seen many C6's with 445 nm diodes, so sorry if these bore you , but here are a couple of bream shots of the two lasers! Hope you like them.:D

And make sure that you have appropriate Laser Safety
Goggles/Glasses for the Lasers you use.

If your Laser Shuts down due to overheating of any
component of the Laser then just reduce the Duty cycle
ON time or increase the Lasers thermal mass to aid in
cooling the Laser.

Welcome aboard! Don't forget to get some Laser Safety Glasses, and the search function here can be your best friend; don't forget to read the Stickies.

Try some non-protected batteries like the Sanyo 18650 or an AW IMR, I had one in the past that did the same thing. The capacity on cheap batteries are often mis-stated and resistance can rise quickly causing the voltage to sage.

I also have a few flashlights that won't run much more than what your getting unless I use the Sanyo 18650, an AW IMR works very well in those lights too.

Lasersbee, electron, are you bots?

Grainde, great that you decided to join the forum and posting in the welcome section.

Nice to see that you already finished your first built and you included safety glasses into your picture

For your technical questions, you might ask DTR. I´m sure he would like to help you

I start my day early... then I go to the [Quick Links] [Todays Posts]
and I go down the list responding to the Posts of the night before.

Since the beginning of January I've had Electron glued to my
butt... I think he may be gay...:eg:

Sorry that's but that's not the team I play for....:cryyy:

My bet is batteries as well. Ultrafire does not make an actual 3600mAh 18650.

They are fakes and probably crapping out under constant load. It is possible that it is something else but if the driver was overheating they just blink not turn off completely. Do you have any other cells you could try it with?

No not yet, will have to order some. The AW's seem to have a good reputation...? Would you use the Ultrafire's charger? I guess the charger actually regulates the charge potential and it doesnt rely on the batteries internal protection..... Anyway I havent seen my Ultrafires over 4.2 V and the AW's are protected too.

Any suggestions for a green host?
