Woman attacked with laser

I'm leaning more on the side that it was a laser then, since I find it it very unlikely that a crank LED light be bright enough or close enough in color to make that kind of mistake. Also, personally speaking I would never make a trip to the ER unless I was absolutely sure I needed to go, so it's also unlikely that she's fabricating the whole thing. Those huge copays and 5+ hour ER trips are no joke.

Heh, you are right. I guess I did underestimate how easily things spread these days. This would be the first incident I've heard of involving a 445 though, normally 532 gets all the bad press. I suppose I just assumed that people stupid enough to blind someone intentionally would not be able to source a 445. Oh, and I got my WLs back in 07'; before anyone had even suspected they might be full of crap.

[old man voice] you kids and yer new fangled internets, information flying by so fast yer head spins! [/old man voice]

Most folks (and their kids) up here are still on dialup and haven't made much ingress into the internet. The joys of living in the Upper Peninsula, heh!

people will go to the ER for the dumbest of reasons.

I absolutely do not doubt that. I remember watching the local news a number of years ago and there was a story about a woman that called 911 because she somehow pushed a cotton swab too far down in her ear that she couldn't reach it to pull it back out. :p

90% of our calls do not require an ambulance. such as checking their blood pressure, their tooth hurts, they are lonely, don't have a ride to the doctor, I have even changed an old lady's kitchen light bulb.

Something like this incident is bound to happen with the huge number of 445nm 1000mw out there.

I just don't see it. I can't imagine a situation in which I would point a laser at someone in anger. Seems a bit like waving a bed sheet in a threatening manner... i.e. If I was to make a list of weapons in my house a laser probably wouldn't even make the top 50.

Then again, I knew someone a while ago that was assaulted by a pot cookie. I guess it takes all kinds.

This Douchebag claimed he lasers people for fun and made a video.
Sad thing is he is on LPF and mentions two main guys here he bought his lasers from.

Last link about 1:40, hard to hear, got to turn up vol. said," I took it to Chicago last weekend, almost got it taken away, I blinded everyone on the sidewalk, it was epic."

Edit: Obviously the Police blew it but the woman could sue. It wouldnt be hard to prove the flashlight cannot blind you and a blue laser can. There is a police report and the perps statement I hope. The perp admitted guilt by handing over the flashlight. A lawyer could easily prove that it was a laser and it hurt the victim with the medical reports.. If I was blinded intentionally I Id hit em where it hurts, in the pocket book.

That's a lie. I haven't sold lasers in over 2 years.
He may of bought the host and heat sink from me. But he definitely didn't get a finished laser from me.

It seems he's trying to draw attention to LPF and respected members while at the same time continuing to be a complete idiot as usual. Probably cried too much after he got torn apart on here and youtube and it's his way of "getting back at us".

Thank you for this ^

45 minutes? sounds like perma damage is likely... you should get the victim to an eye specialist to confirm the damage then make sure the police know, which will hopefully lead to warrant to search the idiots address

just be careful you don't draw attention to yourself

the only time i would point a >5mw laser at someone with the intention to blind/dazzle them is if I believed I was about to be physically attacked, more so if a weapon was involved. hopefully i will never be in that situation

Retina inspection would be totally in place. Xoul was dismissed at ER too as 'probably OK' .. while he had nasty spill of blood in his eye. I guess there is not device for inspecting retina on common ER station.

That jackass should go to jail :p
I don't think a crappy blue flashlight can do that damage !
