do you have the original office key? you can go in MS Word or any other MS Office product and reactivate with that key.

I didnt have to re-activate any of my office products. Actually on my laptop I have Beta 2016 MS Office.
 





Well, that's the thing, the uhm, legitimacy of software is somewhat questionable. As a result I can't really just reactivate it :p
 
Office 365 is pretty cheap these days. I got a four year subscription with $80, and it came with 1TB of cloud storage for the duration.
 
Now on Win 10 from 7 Pro and it took almost 2 hours for Windows (Microsoft) to complete
the upgrade. I ended up with the "black screen of death" for a while. Grabbed the tablet
and Googled Win 10 upgrade issues and found some helpful post from other "bsod" people
and got it going. After the pain in the ass upgrade experience I gotta say I like it. :>?
 
The install wasn't so bad. Doing ALL of the upgrades on windows 8 to get there, now that was a pain in the @$$. The upgrade to 10 itself took about 90 minutes for me on the newest computer.

Definitely looking forward to some bugs being fixed, and also to hopefully a bit more control. Don't like updates being pushed with no say in when it happens. (Going to explore pausing the process via registry.)

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but direct from MS it's 6.99/month. Not a fan of the price per year, or the subscription format.

over here in germany i paid like 4 euro for a year :O

Folks, I ran into a problem yesterday with my keyboard. For some reason my razer blackwidow ultimate 2011 keyboard stopped working. Tried everything I could think of, but can't get it to work. Razer is absolutely useless in terms of support. Only potential option I can think of left to me, and with no guarantee of success, is to do a clean install of windows 10.

Tried uninstalling the drivers, tried installing older drivers. Tried using the razer synapse software, which promptly proceeded to freeze, which is a common enough issue. Tried different ports. Tried deleting everything I could think of from the device manager.

The keyboard works on other computers, does light up, is seen by windows, and does work if the macro function key is used for macros/secondary functions, and even works in bios, but will not type in windows.

Mount to USB, or emulator? Only reason any of my computers have an optical drive is if it's installed when I get it.
 
My main gaming rig has no optical drive due to it being SFF. I do keep a USB optical drive around as I have literally 100's of disks from my earlier days.

Not sure whats going on with you're KB , Iv'e had zero issues with my Logitech G15 gaing KB.
Can't help 'ya on that one.

Yeah the keyboard thing really has be stumped. I'm not sure whether it's related to the update microsft pushed out last night, or if it's somehow related to me installing a video card at the same time (though I can't see how the hardware change could possible be related).

Indeed. I've used laptops as primary systems over the last couple of years, and since i prefer them not to be that bulky they were without optical drives.

I've learned that it's perfectly possible to install windows from a usb drive or even sd card on most modern systems.

Perhaps an optical drive is handy to have when some client decides to mail you content on a disc, but that happens so rarely that i can just hop over to a friend that still has an optical drive and copy it onto a usb stick if required.
 
Yup, the only time I use the cd drive at work is if a client sends a disk, and even then more often then not I have the product data downloaded directly from manufacturer/supplier ftp.

With laptops, while I certainly use them when traveling, at home and at work I'm a big, and dual screen devotee, working with spreadsheets that usually have 10+ columns, and sometimes 50+ having a large monitor means being able to see more at once without straining. My dream purchase for work is one of the newer curved 3440 x 1440 dell's but there is no way in hell my boss would ever spring for that.

I wish the optical media format would die already. It's a shame that there's still places in the world where it's cheaper or faster to FedEx a disc than use the internet.
