Windows 10 , Have you?

Well, Windows 10 is the first windows to no longer have floppy disk support by default, so that's something, and they didn't really go out of mainstream use until around 2005, with a steep decline starting in mid to late 90's. (Remember all those AOL disks! :p)

From that time we've had the evolution to higher density formats in the form of dvd, and blu-ray, and we might even see another type of disk, but probably not, given the rise of streaming. (Same as the reason cited for killing windows media center.)

To me an even more forward indicator is the price of optical drives... Kingwin Internal IDE CD/DVD-ROM - Slickdeals.net when companies are pushing products out for the price of shipping alone, you know the end for them is near.

I do miss taking the rubber balls out of old mice, and that satisfying click from the floppy disk cover. Not to mention I got out of a few late assignment hand ins by purposely damaging the disk before giving it teachers and professors :eg:

Blu-ray will be the end of it, I don't think we'll see any (consumer) optical media anymore.

Sony made the barrier to use blu-ray too high, it forced people to move to distribution over the internet. Now that most people have made a switch they're not going to move on unless something better comes up.

I agree, resolutions are rising, but that will place more demand on the service providers, not drive us back to moving data physically.

I am just gonna leave this right here

"Faster than 97% of Canada"

I'm way jealous. My upload speed is still in the kb/s range. If I ever want to upload a batch of photo's, or a video then it's faster to walk 30mins to campus and upload it on their gigabit connection.

How much do you pay for that if you don't mind me asking?

Back on track, so as a Microsoft Insider, 2 days ago I received a major update, almost like a next release version in win10. So there maybe a big update coming for those on retail win10 soon.

basically from retail, after the update, now my windows say Insider build version xxxxx

Good to know... another bug that's cropped up is a devicesetup process that kept my cursor blinking non stop.

Not to mention windows 10 insists on trying to update everything, even non windows related. Personally I'm of the if it's not broken don't fix it mentality when it comes to drivers, so it's making me somewhat annoyed.

MS desperately needs to add more options regarding updates, that's so far my biggest gripe. Home edition users shouldn't be treated like a beta test pool.

IE...I think your computer has been hitting the bottle while you're not looking!

I had my uncle call me that his laptop went into a recovery loop when trying to turn it back on from sleep mode. I pretty much tried every solution I could find, and in the end I decided to reinstall Windows 10 on it. As soon as I came across the "select drive to install Windows on" screen, I noticed that all I could find were a completely empty hard drive with a seperate partion named "recovery" that had about 20gb's of data on it.

He's not the best with computers, and tends to mess things up every now and then, but to actually completely erase Windows while the machine is still on is something I don't even know is possible at all.

Other than that I haven't really experienced any bugs.

How does one format the windows partition itself while it's active?! That's a new one.

@Ped... yeah I'm gonna do a clean install. Tired of picking up the tab.

Exactly. It still remains a mystery for me. This time I made the laptop never enter sleep mode, whether it's closed or not unless you hit the button combination. Hopefully this shit won't happen again cause it took me a couple hours to install all the required language and keyboard packs along with a bunch of software on it.

I always disable sleep option, when lid is closed or pressing power button, or with any idle time. My laptop was on for almost whole night without going into sleep mode on it own, only by using button combination or from windows shutdown options.

Yeah I usually do this right away when I do a clean install. My uncle however upgraded his Windows 8.1 to 10 himself and had no clue about this being possible. Then again, who would've thought that sleep mode would've totally messed up his OS?
