Windows 10 , Have you?

Finished setting up all my files and programs on Windows 10 yesterday and used it for a few hours, while the touch interface on the Surface has improved a lot it's REALLY buggy during extended use, to the point of being unusable.

Hopefully this will get sorted out in the next month or it's back to Windows 8.1.

I'm rather disappointed by this, there's no excuse for having significant bugs in hardware that is made by the same company as the OS...


Everything else has been working the same, or better.

In any case, i'm waiting it out for a bit, perhaps 3 months or something like that. If no major problems are still around for my laptops i will upgrade them to 10 (one from 7, the other from 8.1).

As for signed drivers: is there a similar way to install unsigned ones as there is in windows 8.1? I do need those for some things, if it's not possible to install unsigned drivers at all that'd stop me from updating.

Just found this:

"a. Press the Win + C and click on PC settings.
b. Switch over to the “Update & recovery” section.
c. Then click on the Recovery option on the left hand side.
d. Once selected, you will see an advanced startup section appear on the right hand side. You will need to click on the “Restart now” button.
e. Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to choose the Troubleshoot option.
f. Then head into Advanced options.
g. Then Startup Settings.
h. Since we are modifying boot time configuration settings, you will need to restart your computer one last time.
I. Here you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key."

My SSHD arrives tomorrow. I will clone my HDD to it, then update to Windows 10 and test out the software.

Finished upgrading my 4-5 year old latptop to W10 today. Ran into very serious problem with wireless adapter, had to install 8.1 drivers, and add network manually, but finally up and running.

Given that both latptops used completely genuine windows, and that one was quite literally as fresh of an install as possible (took it out of the box with with W8 installed) and BOTH had issues that required me to mess around with settings, registry keys, and drivers, I definitely would not recommend this upgrade to anyone short on time, or without at least some basic computer troubleshooting skills.

That said, now that it's done, both latops feel quite a bit more snappy, and start up times have been cut significantly.

Going to clone the drives, and upgrade to SSD this weekend. After that I expect they can last me another 3 and 5 years respectively. (One is 1.5 years old, the other, five or six, I don't remember.)

Here goes nothing! I just cloned my hard drive to this new solid state hybrid drive I'm now running, so I can effectively do a 100% revert to the exact state it is in now.

BTW, this is my first solid state drive. Do I need to disable disk defrag for my hybrid drive? I'm sure there's no way to only defrag the hard disk portion, since Windows sees it as one drive?

You didn't need to clone the drive, Win10 takes complete snapshot of your current installation automatically, and if you don't like Win10 , you can do a full rollback to you're old OS.

Edit: Laserbee software is working just fine. I actually just used it to make sure my new Ophir LPM is accurate. It is. I can now measure up to 10 watts. Cheers to new software AND hardware!

I didn't clone my drive for this. I cloned it to upgrade to a solid state hybrid drive before I upgraded to W10. It looks like everything survived the upgrade, and it definitely feels much more snappy than W7.

Ah I get 'ya.

I did the same. SSD's are stupidly cheap now, there's no reason not to, and once you have, you'll wonder how you managed with mechanical hard drives.

Yea, I went for the SSHD, and now I'm already thinking...maybe I should sell it and get a full blown SSD. I have an external HDD for storage anyways. Lol. But I'll probably get a new computer before I upgrade this one any further. Or a Surface. I would like a Surface I think.

Back on topic...with Windows 10, I now no longer have to disable driver signature enforcement. Awesome! With Windows 7, any time I did an actual reboot(not sleep/hibernate), I would have to disable driver signature enforcement to use my Laserbee. No longer! Awesome!

A certain company is currently trying to get 16TB SSD's into the consumer market. I doubt it's going to have a fancy price tag though, and I'm not sure how much longer it'll be before we actually get to see them.

it is even more snappier then Win7. Love a lot of features it has to offer, I really like the whole integration if you use microsoft account.

PS: I was beta tester since day one. and now I have it on all my machines.

Also, a quick tip, once you have Win10 installed over your old windows, the old windows folder (windows.old) still exists on your hard drive. if you like to save space on your hard drive you could remove that folder by following the instructions here: remove the Windows.old

I ended up coming across a way to delete it when I was exploring W10. I am leaving it for now. Transferring most of my pictures to my external gave me back most of my space.

I really love Windows 10. The ONLY issue I've noticed is that my one-finger scrolling doesn't work. When I pull up the TouchPad settings, it shows that it's picking up the touch in the correct region, it simply won't scroll. But I can use two-finger scrolling, so it isn't a big deal.

So far the only issue I have with windows 10 is that my MS Office is no longer valid. Aside from that upgraded old home pc, and two laptops over the weekend.

Also upgrade the laptops with SSD's and they are freakishly fast now. Newer one boots in under 20 seconds (with entering a password).

Yes same here, 1 finger scroll doesnt work, I use 2 fingers as well.

another tip..you guys may already know, for lock screen and desktop you can have custom pictures in any folder and point lock screen and desktop to that folder and select slideshow option, with timer. It changes background accordingly.
