I think you are taking me wrong. I dont blame Niko, I do think he got played though. We should let this thread die before it gets so long people will not read the whole thing. All the advice that needed to be presented was given. Lets not bury it in useless debate.

It has to be viable, money should be no problem, but you can't use diamonds as heatsinks if you know what I mean :D

With how much they're going to want to charge for it, it had better have a heatsink made out of diamonds.

Hey this is it.

He asked you to make your own ideas, not steal them from rog, and put your own watermarl over his:

edit, I meant to take rep, not give it...

Ok this has gotten out of hand, I'll have this thread closed.

Regarding accusations, I really believed it was a good opportunity; I mean, I only created it because if I could have participated, I would have.
Now, don't get me wrong, I completely understand your points and I respect all of them as they're logical. I hadn't seen it that way or else I would have discussed it further with Steve before creating the thread.

SirVesa, I don't think I owe you an explanation judging from your join date (May 10) but I respect new members just as I respect old members. On past occasions I have already stated I was not affiliated with WL, I'm not their agent. I'm just giving them the help I offered. You should re-read the disclaimer I wrote in the OP. If you don't believe it you can ask Steve himself.

@TJ;chip;EF: No offense taken. Logic shouldn't make me mad :)

The only way for this it work is WL needs to create some legal contracts before anything is submitted. Making promises second hand through a member here is very unprofessional. There is a boatload of legal issues that must be addressed before anything is submitted on both parties.

This is a scam. If WL wanted help, Steve should have appealed to us directly, with sold offers of legal compensation. Instead he makes up this stupid contest, uses one of our good members to introduce it to us, and just offers some crummy laser as payment. Excuse me, now there is a promise of royalties too. Without legal documents, any offers are BS, because he can say whatever he wants. Talk is cheap, and its even cheaper using a second hand voice to do it. No offence Niko. This whole thing a sham, and very insulting.

Niko is for sure a trusted person, but the verdict is still out on WL...

Steve promised quite a few people Spyder III units and never came through. But he did get a lot of good reviews on lesser units and got a lot of sales I'm sure...

Don't get me wrong, he still gave out a few free lasers. Which is good in itself. But what I'm saying, is that the original promise (which is what motivated many), never came through...

How can we trust that a promise of anything will come through??

@Jayrob, youre right.

He told me that my Spyder III 473nm unit was not available to me anymore.

He said:

"i hope you understand"

Wow, this is ironic since I am currently working on a new design myself. I was just telling jayrob not long ago that I am finally working on something new I had been designing. I did tell him that I would let him have the first look though. I do agree with the general consensus that WL offer is terrible. I'm sure as hell not giving them my design! In fact once I'm done prototyping I'm getting a patent pending. This design is a pointer type, not a box, and does not utilize a sled. I'm not sure if anyone remembers or not but I had built the second "portable" white/7 color just after rog's, when he had the first design with the ps2 sled in that huge custom machined mag light. I had some phr sleds and figured out how to use it in mine while rog was building his #2. I think it would be fun to see rog come out with a new one too. We could have a good old fashion race for the first working prototype. Of course I'd have a bit of a head start I guess, being that I'm done designing and beginning machining this week. I'm planning on spending the time necessary to get this to be the best it possibly can be and I have invested in some machinery to facilitate this. Be on the lookout for a "New White Laser" thread in the next couple of months.

My wife and I are having our first child, due any day now, so I'm expecting it slow down the build progress a bit. However I have taken the summer off from my engineering classes and taken some time off work to devote the time other things so I don't foresee a complete stall in progress on this project.

To GreenLaser, I think you have an interesting design but you may reconsider the layout of the optics. The placement of the green module doesn’t allow for a very compact assembly. It would work fine for a box or lab style but I just don't see that fitting in a flash light's parameters.

To everyone considering designing one of these, don’t sell your self short. It takes many, many hours to design and develop a good quality "white" laser and a good design is worth much more than just a free unit.

Judging from what I've seen of your other projects, I know your new build will be awesome...

Congrats on your new baby!

Was that a sales pitch.

Greenlaser ripped off Rog's design. He just put his name over Rog's.

I'm not positive that the sales pitch question was directed towards me but if so, no it isn't. I just thought maybe I could build some anticipation, hehe joking. Anyway, if there is enough demand and if everything goes right I will offer some kits and likely have someone here do a review first.

GreenLaser, presenting others work as your own is stupid. It's one thing if you have an idea you think is original but come to find out has been done, but stealing others designs is going to ruin your rep and credibility.
TJ, I didnt even notice he stole that. I see now robjdixon has pointed that out, thanks.

So, no contest ? ..... pity ..... i really was curious to see someone turn in reality my plans and draws :p ..... ah, well ..... maybe i need to find a decent machinist near my home, that don't ask me to sell a lung for build my parts, and start to sell my own pointers ? ..... it's hard, here, especially for the optics :p

By the way, none have an idea about how much can cost, to have a pair of custom optics built "from a design" ? (basically, turning prisms and combiners ..... also approximatively, i want to compare the prices in other parts of the world with the ones that i got here)

How can we trust that a promise of anything will come through??

All the money that guy sucks in from unsuspecting google'ers looking for lasers and that tool couldnt even give me the $100 credit he promised me to make up for HIS mistakes!!! and still doesnt answer any of my emails. I still have the messages from him where he promised me the credit if anyone is interested. Same old WL BS IMO.....
