Wicked Lasers Clearance Sale! - CLOSED

Re: Wicked Lasers Clearance Sale!

Waiting for mine now :) I normally do not like pointers, personally, I think they should be illegal, however I will be using this for diving only, so I feel it is safe.

Re: Wicked Lasers Clearance Sale!

It seems to me that the specs on the Spyder II blue is a typo. I think maybe they switched it with the Spyder II red. There is no way a multimode red diode laser has better beam specs than a DPSS blue.
The specs listed for the blue look like a multimode emitting diode.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
if they outlaw pointers, sooner or later they're gonna get your labbies/projectors.

Re: Wicked Lasers Clearance Sale!

They cannot outlaw lasers used for research as it would distroy entire research fields and massive companies. They can require licenses for them, which i believe they should. There is a practical use for lasers intended for research, there is not for laser pointers.

I guess... but look at britain right now. A while ago they outlawed handguns, and now all rifles and shotguns used for perfectly legitimate hunting and home defense are impossible to get without lots of cash, time, and knowledge of the law. You even need a license to use a mostly harmless toy airsoft gun. I guarantee you the moment they start putting real restrictions on lasers, some "moms against (insert bad thing here" group is gonna get labbies outlawed because they think kids are going to play with them and blind each other. Most people won't hear reason when they hear the words "powerful laser". I think that restrictions against potentially dangerous stuff in general is a bad idea, as good old ben franklin said, "Those who would give up Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety and will receive none." or something along those lines.

Let's hope so.

Lets put it this way, do you want to be put at risk when your plane is landing because some idiot bought a laser on eBay and is trying it out on the cockpit? It is not temporary safety, it is because there is no reason you should have a laser pointer which can easily blind people, the damage it can do it a lot worse then the benefits of it. There is a reason you are not allowed to carry guns on airplanes, not because of temporary security, but because there is absolutely no use at all for them besides things that would be harmful to other people.

I think it is good that it is very difficult to get guns, it makes it so there are less of them out there. In the US, you can go get a gun at a gun show and there is no record of it, that is a serious problem, it should be more difficult to get a gun then it currently is.

I never saw it that way, you make a very good point there, Ben.

Honestly, the chances of my pilot being blinded are so slim I don't care. Plus most modern plane pilot windows are polarized to prevent light from entering up to reduce ground glare and interference. I think the benefit outweighs the risk when it comes to owning pointers. And the whole "illegalizing guns gets them off the street" argument is complete and utter bull. Making guns illegal takes them away from law abiding citizens, but why is someone who is already a criminal going to start following the law all of a sudden? On top of that, guns are so easy to construct out of scrap material it's not even funny. People think a gun is a super complex machine that you can only get from a gun store, but the reality is if you have a lathe and a few other basic tools, you can make a very effective and accurate machine gun, and even ammunition. The same goes for lasers, the law abiding citizens will lose their lasers but people who don't understand them will point them at planes and cause trouble. And honestly I would feel more secure if guns were allowed on planes. That way if some jihad asshole decides to try and jack the plane, he gets 5 bullets in his chest before he can do anything. Sure, maybe sometimes someone will kill someone else on a plane with a gun, but you would never again see someone kill 5000 people with a boxcutter. In fact, the country with the highest gun ownership rate in the world (switzerland) has some of the lowest gun crime and overall crime. So just my opinion, outlawing things almost never gets rid of them.

Guys please take the discussion to private messages or create another thread for it.

Thanks.

Hey Niko, is Steve offering these deals to only us here, or is he advertising it at other forums as well?

AFAIK it's only for LPF. I have asked him if I should post the same deal on LC but I didn't get an answer to that.

May I ask why do you ask? :p

Re: Wicked Lasers Clearance Sale!

hey niko, can you ask about duty cycle and operating temperatures?
