Regarding a pilot, there is a safety story we tell at the lab I work at (truth or not, I'm not sure).

A guy once borrowing a very high powered laser from the lab to trim a tree he couldn't reach - with no thought to the beam that was going into the atmosphere. (It was also a laser that was designed for long range). It hit an airplane's wing, and caused malfunction that forced him to crash land.

It's serious business.

Hey... anyone here work at the National Ignition Facility?

My neighbor has a Black Walnut tree that hangs over my driveway and the squirrels are always dropping crap on my cars, and all the leaves and sticks are a PITA every fall... :p

Sounds interesting enough to have an incident report somewhere...

Perhaps...?

No? :shhh:

Ehh, in our lab we've got multiple lasers at well over 100-150 watts...

Are they portable and are they used to trim trees..... as you
stated above....
Try pulling the other leg.... this one is long enough....

Recently I saw someone saying something about how folks were going to have problems because teenagers will now sit on the side of the road and pop the tires of passing vehicles with their Arctics. IIRC It was later found to take 10+ minutes of burn time with the laser focused and the laser and tire several mm apart and held completely still.. and that was a bike tire. I can't ever downplay the danger of lasers, they are very dangerous, but some things are just not gonna happen.

YouTube - Amazing video of new Spyder III laser in action

lol.

No, the person was on a forum and seemed serious, but that's obviously where their inspiration came from LOL!

Wow, thats some wopper you got there. I suppose there would be some news clipping somewhere of the incident. Either that or some toilet paper to wipe up the huge pile of BS you just dropped.:crackup::crackup:

So do you think that You should be owning a licence right now for your personal lasers?
Or does that just mean other people:na:

Yes, I believe everyone, INCLUDING myself should be required to have a license to own/use lasers over a certain output range (both power and wavelength).

Can not believe that an aircraft was brought down by that laser. It is a severe burn hazard to flesh, as well as a blinding beam. No way it brought down an aircraft. It would be possible to bring down an auto gyro, but that would be if the pilots exposed body was burned by the beam. ;-)

^Yes, it's just the bubble I need. My one's broken and now just sinks to the bottom in two halves!

(Nice rebuff though, I have seen these before and thought it would be funny, if ever asked to go get one as a joke, to return with one.)
