I personally never heard or known about a kid ( NOT AN ADULT , PILOT ETC...!!!!) getting permanently blinded by a laser! I HAVE heard about people getting eye damage though....BUT i know once a KID gets hurt here in USA, they will be outlawed! So lets not have a kid blinded by a laser EVER...

I don't really understand what your getting at, your post doesn't really make any sense.

If you trying to argue whether or not a laser can actually blind you, the 1W 445nm laser will literally make your eye pop. You'll hear it just around the same time the explicit pain kicks in and your vision is lost. As for the licence I think any laser above 5mW's should require a licence to own.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying.

Well yea of course, i know these things are dangerous! BUT I have never heard of that happening to a kid IN THE US. SO has it happened to a kid in the US? Most incedents are shining at planes and cops and such... I have read about reflection beams that cause damage, but not Blindness

You say you haven't heard of some kid being hurt.
Laser diodes are becomming more powerfull all the time, just sit back and watch sooner or later some one will be hurt by a stupid act that could have been prevented and that's when the S*** will hit the fan...

Why does everyone think people are going blind with lasers? I personally never heard or known about a kid getting permanently blinded by a laser! BUT i know once that happens here in USA, they will be outlawed! So are we really trying to prevent that from ever happening by being PRO liscnese and regristraion on these powerful things?

I sure someone has been hurt already but it hasn't made the media. Perhaps if most are lucky injuries have been minor. You don't always go instantly blind, effects can take time to develop & there can be damage to just your color perception. Your brain can also prevent you from noticing minor blind spots I believe.

As Flaminpyro said its only a matter of time before Fan+Syht.
Does WL care how old you are as long as you can pay for your 1W arctic?

There's a story on here somewhere, of an account of someone who shone a powerful laser in his eye. Can't find it though, I'm sure someone will post it soon.

I haven't heard of any friends of mine that have AIDS. However, that doesn't mean AIDS does not exist.

We had a member lose ability to see the color green-at least for a time-I hope you are not thinking that it cannot happen...

do yourself a favor- lose that avatar- hak

I had a blindspot in the middle of my vision for several months after mirror-bounce hit with only a 30mW greenie.
Also there was a local indicent where someone shone a very powerful laser on a plane that was landing, I think it was 500mW or so. Anyways, the main pilot suffered 70% permanent blindness and the copilot got blindspots, I don't remember how severe.

So basically:
Why does everyone think people are going blind with lasers?
Because people are going blind from lasers.

Wow...
:can:

So do you think that You should be owning a licence right now for your personal lasers?
Or does that just mean other people
:na:

You can easily use the Edit button on you posts to edit those
two posts...
^^^^ That is called double posting when it is not required and
is considered bad Forum etiquette...

Yes, Junior Member, it's a big deal to us. People go blind from them because they're used wrong, that's what we are here for. When using a laser over ~5mW, you should be using safety glasses. Lasers, reguardless of power, color, divergence, should NEVER be shined at airplanes or cops, both will likely land you in jail, and not to worry, I'm sure you'll get laid in jail.   lol
