Who here is feeling gassy?

I just got my 168 running at home on a phase converter, I posed pics in the multimedia section but figured I should post them here as well

The tube starts!!! No lasing... but after a quick alignment we have light!!!

the big glass tubes really are amazing to look at - makes diode lasers look so boring =P

I turned mine into a pointer... just for fun... haha. I only left it that way for a day or so, then a put it back on my shelf as a lasb laser, where it belongs.

The dot looks really dim here because the flash on the camera drowned it out... it really is bright!

The colors in that glass tubing look really wild! That in and of itself makes a neat pic even w/o a beam shot!

BTW, it seems you have the same problem with your lasers that I do sometimes - too many lasers and no place to put them! You have them on your couch, washing machine, etc... but yes I know it's tough finding a dedicated spot to keep your argon lasers. But hey, one can never have too many lasers - even if they don't have a permanent home in your home! :)

I searched the whole country from top to bottom for a cheap SP168 and most of the time I never even got a reply !

Gus -- I see the power supply has simple controls.  9 cycles and two speeds.  That should be easy to run  :D I think my wife could do it ;D

Love the Argon ion laser stuff! Magnetic beam compression is soooo magic. Squeezing the plasma in the resonant cavity to produce the skinniest beams rules. ;-)

Less of a " To get a thin beam " more of a " To stop the plasma from burning the tube "

Argon lasers with magnets don't always have thin beams, it depends on the optics and bore diameter. Take the lexel 88 for example, by argon laser standards, the beam is quite fat, that has a magnet too !

JDSU 2211 argon laser with no magnets has a very thin beam !
