Does the seller or buyer cover a lost package? or do they split it half and half? From now on I am doing tracked and insured.

Depends on the store policy, i'm not sure of LPF customs, but most retail laser shops (like o-like) cover lost packages. Packages getting is lost is to common these days... I don't get how a packages could just go "missing"

IMO the seller.

Unless the buyer has the package shipped through customs in which case, 50/50 though I think it is still ultimately the seller's responsibility.

Always get tracking. For regular mail, use registered. If you have no proof of delivery you're asking for trouble:undecided:

If you didn't ship via Priority Mail with Delivery confirmation then just go ahead and issue a refund.

When the buyer files the dispute (which they have every right to), PayPay will side with them if you cannot offer proof of shipment.

Make sure it isn't stuck at your post office, I just figured out today I have 7 packages waiting for me.

Tomorrow will be like christmas.

Exactly.....

Ultimately it is the Seller's responsibility to prove that
the package arrived to the buyer....

It is up to the seller to Insure and/or Track the package
that he is handing over to the courier... (the buyer is
not handing over the package)

It is up to the seller to inform the buyer that he will not
ship otherwise...

Been there...... Done that.... Very expensive lessons..

I would rather loose a sale than ship without insurance
ans/or Tracking...

Lovely how this works, I bought something from a member and it never showed up.. The guy was acting weird and I ended up having to eat the costs and he just moved on.

I'm still a noob around here, but most of these guys seem to be honest, and want to help advance the hobby. MOST...

I am sure that pointing out this particular member to the rest of the good folks here could help getting things straightened out.

No need, that particular member is now banned. Karma is a B:)tch. :na:

I've always considered it my responsibility until it arrives to the customer's door in the condition in which they purchased it.

^ Agreed. I feel the same way If I didn't opt for insurance and tracking when I send something then it's my fault.

The customer paid for a product to be delivered.
They did NOT pay for you to ship a product
Until the product is delivered, you are responsible for it

Most packages I ship get a minimum of delivery confirmation
>~$100 gets insured, with signature confirmation

Shipping on even a single laser is a minimum of $10
~$5 for priority mail
~$3 for insurance
~$2 for signature confirmation

I have shipped >1000 packages. I used to sell rocks and minerals on eBay. I have shipped hundreds of diodes. I have had only two packages that "disappeared"

Peace,
dave

Yep... Seller's responsibility to get the product to the buyer.
Sending a package with no insurance/tracking is a very dumb idea.
I always insure every package I send for at least $200, even items only worth $20.

I have also shipped hundreds of packages. Only had two international ones go missing and they both showed back up on my doorstep several months later as undeliverable. One was to South Korea and the other Israel.

That will not help you... They will only cover to the actual proven
(with invoices and documentation) costs of the real value of the
item..
They will not pay out $200.00 on just your word.:cryyy:

If you make an insurance claim... you will need to prove to the
courier of the value of the contents...(the courier will cover his a$$
as well before he pays a claim)

If your house burns down you will only be covered to the max
market value or the Max of your Insurance Policy... whichever
is lower...

For example... the last time I had a Package get lost going to
the USA I and the customer had to jump through Canada Post's
Insurance Claim department hoops for 6 Months with piles of
paperwork and Snail Mail correspondence before they honored
the Insurance Claim...
They are fast to take your Insurance money... but really slow
in paying a Claim...:cryyy:

Mini rant: You just described every single experience I have EVER had with insurance companies. Freaking leeches on society imho.
