You will also find that nobody can agree on anything AT ALL about the damn thing.

Just wait a while till it is actually made...

Fair enough.. I ordered one. Don't think I'll be the volunteer to dunk it underwater to see if it's waterproof :P

Best advice I've heard all week.

Peace,
dave

I completely agree with dave on this one. (thanks for summing it up Pontiacg5):yh:

I have been spending all of my time this past week reading though all of the crap and random rumors about the Arctic, and what is true and false has blended together for me. I will just wait until I get mine in the mail to learn anything more about it.

Finally people with brains :p I'll never buy anything again until seeing many good reviews.
That's thanks to Sony, for when they launched the PSP the majority of the LCD's had dead pixels.
Then AGAIN with the PSP-3000 having scanlines. Which they then had the balls to say that was a "feature" of the new LCD and wouldn't be fixed :p
So from then on I decided I wouldn't be a guinea pig anymore.

I contacted WL and they said what most of the other people have been saying: "everything is waterproof except for the FDA approved tail cap" ... so.. it's not waterproof :P

If you look at the WICKED LASERS "ARCTIC" & the NOVALASERS "ATLANTIS" IMO there really is NO choice to be made. That SPYDER III HOST from Wicked is just about the coolest, bestest, lookin' host ANY laser manufactuer EVER came up with. The "ATLANTIS" from NOVALASERS looks like a piece of dowel rod that's been painted black, while the SPYDER III host looks futuristic, like a light-saber or something from a sci-fi flick. Just my $00.02 that's worth millions, LOL !!!!

Lol, everything is waterproof but the huge hole in the back.

That = Fail

Whereas the Atlantis also has a shutter, keylock, interlock and output delay. (according to the sheet).

The Atlantis yearns respect. The Spyder doesn't.

YAY! Another person that sees beyond the aesthetics of the device and into the function. I for one have always thought the Atlantis trumped the Arctic in terms of design and looks, because yeah, the Spyder III looks 'cool' but the Atlantis is safe, and is possessed of a refined elegance. [/rant]

Trust me, when some kid sees the Atlantis they won't want to play Jedi with it and blind all their friends. Heck- most kids won't even look at the Atlantis (no pun intended).

If I had the $$$ I'd certainly get the Atlantis without a second thought. If I had to pick I'd get the Atlantis even if it cost hundreds more. Because I know I'm getting something that's more than a ridiculous lightsabre toy with a high power laser shoved into it.

To be honest though, I'd much prefer it be in a Hercules style host.

Also, a quick question- I've noticed the Arctic has a small pin for the interlock. Isn't the point of the interlock to allow a person to yank it out in an emergency- hence the cord style interlock keys?

Or is it there just to satisfy FDA requirements?

I'm not entirely sure, I think it's just to satisfy the FDA requirements, that way even if someone has the keys, they can't get it to work on their own.

Tell me about it. Hahah I guess you can put the top part in water!! :P wooot

Well hey, let's look at the bright side here people...

It also doubles as a drink stirrer! Never be left with an unstirred drink again!

:p

if you can't even blink fast enough to protect your eyes in an emergency, how are you going to pull out an interlock in time, even if it had a huge dongle on it? I'm starting to think it is more so that if you don't know how to operate the laser, you can't.

Anyway, the point is now moot because the Atlantis is no longer in catalog (probably because someone protested that it's way overpowered to be sellable) and it's safe to assume that the Arctic will follow suit soon.

Either that, or the price will soon increase to $1979.79 because "hey, if our customers want to pay more, who are we to disappoint them?"

Buy selling those for so cheap WL and NOVA lasers are screwing themselves. Some punk kid is gonna blind his classmate and it'll be all over the news.

At least NOVA lasers puts it in an appropriate host. Theirs is more an instrument and does have the necessary safety features. Wicked on the other hand makes it look like and advertises it as a Toy! It's not supposed to look cool, it's not a toy. There are articles popping up all over Google News about the Arctic.

So my advice is to learn to make your own. If you buy the diode, driver, host, and batteries all separately it'll be way cheaper anyway.
