Say what? They're still being used over here here. The only thing slower than paying with cash is checks! It takes about two seconds to swipe and go, no pin needed.
Due to the lack of ATMs in the UP that don't charge for withdrawals nearly all of my purchases are with credit/debit cards. We have 2 ATMs in a 30mi radius and both charge $5/transaction and the minimum withdrawal is $20, maximum of $200.
We don't have that system here. It takes appx 50s~ for someones credit card to be approved; some systems even take a couple minutes. Cash takes about 10s (if the cashier is of a reasonable speed), and plus there's never a problem with cash being accepted
Canada just started to remove pennies. It rounds to the nearest .05$ now.
