Does your phone not wake up for texts?
Mine doesn't.
So I hear it's a problem for other phones from HTC.

I emailed HTC. Solution? Set the phone so it never freaking turns off.
Yay battery death. A solution that's total crap.

Did you read my reply to you in this thread:

I've owned multiple HTC phones and they've all been great. Currently I own the Kaiser (TyTN II) (or AT&T calls it the tilt). But after flashing a custom rom the phone usually performs much better, and usually it has more things to play around with. The Touch is a great phone, but im guessing the stock rom cripples the phone.

My phone is fine, although like mike I am quite experienced with these things and have custom ROMs etc.
The big problem I've had with HTC phones is the USB ports die. I just resoldered a new one into mine.
With an extended battery my universal is huuuge!
For some reason my universal doesn't turn off anyway.
Only standby.

What made you get the universal? I mean yeah its good... but its HUGE.
with one of my phones the usb started to bend because of my girlfriend keeping me on the phone so late at night. just keeping it in 1 position bent it over time. My current phone I tried to put the stylus away at night and missed, i jabbed the usb port splitting the rectangle thing in half. Luckily, i didn't damage the pins, and i was able to just use needle nose pliers and press it back into form.

Old phones I have include,

Motorola V3i   -Clamshells are great for answer/ending calls and it still works fully. Menu system (as with all Motos) is just sh**e.

MDA VarioII and 02 XDA (both HTC's)  - Hi-tech in their day with WM5, sat-nav, etc. Very cumbersome to hold nowadays.

Blackberry 8210  - World's worst, ugliest and illogical O.S. ever. Claims to have gps, lying git. Any fool can use the network to establish a vague triangulation of location and superimpose a downloaded map over the results. Even a simple re-boot tends to entail another birthday come and go !!

In use now is my HTC Touch Diamond ;
4GB onboard memory, WM 6 , G-sensor for tilt-related games and rotating pictures/ internet etc. Real gps hardware onboard (running TomTom 7 sat-nav, a speedometer app. et al). There are hardware buttons with additional capacitive functionality (press like a key or trace finger onto/around certain areas for other functions)

Same Z520a from sony ericsson.....first and only cell phone i've ever owned :D

Anybody wanna throw away an old phone for teh Chuck?

Blackjack 2

I do not use that Leopard theme anymore, just using the Windows Mobile 6.1 default theme :D

The Diamond is a great phone! are you part of xda-developers? You can get games like Quake 3 and Cube ported on it.
