What not to do with a 445nm 1 watt laser






He kind of looks like the guy who got banned for posting that fake Arctic eye-strike video.
 
I was hoping the alligator clips would short.

I've said it before...

Class IV lasers belong stationary, mounted to a table, and in a controlled environment.

Not that I haven't owned/built or played with any myself... But my experience playing with 500mW+ 405nm, 2.5W+ 808nm and 1000mW+ 445nm portables, plus a few multi-Watt IR diodes reaffirms my belief that any laser outputting thousands of milliWatts is NOT a toy in ANY way and it should not be promoted as one.

Compared to some "real" high power equipment, 1W is not much. But keep in mind that it has enough destructive power to cause lasting and severe damage to our sensitive sensory organs in a matter of moments.

For those that do not believe in the dangers, just make them stick a finger in the beam - not the most healthy thing to do, but after one zap, people usually understand that that experiment should not be repeated on their retinas.

Obviously its not an experiment to be recommended, but for particularly stubborn types it does prove a point. I've found that friends with an acacemic background stat running one you light a match in the beam though, let alone lighting a removed or incense stick. The latter is something quite convincing for most - seeing that makes you want to keep any body part away from the beam, not just the eyes.

That's not creativity... that's pure ignorant hillbilly stupidity...IMO

Very dumb let alone the fact that it would smell horrible. We all knew this was going to happen. Kids see it as a toy, not understanding how very dangerous these 1W lasers are. One day one of them will probably be hit...I bet they don't even own laser glasses or care one bit to.
 
I don't see it that bad. First those are clearly no children. The 'hairdresser' has goggles (IMHO, not very clear), the 'victim' hac closed eyes, at least most of the time. The hairdresser uses beam stop of some kind, also the laser seams to be some ghetto build, clearly no Arctic or something like that.
I would even say it's cool, if the video was better shot, and if I could not imagine how awful that could smell.
 
One ignorant fool like this could be all it takes to ruin this hobby for everyone!

Don't understand .. this is nothing compared to lasers shone at aircraft (and it happens all the time).

This was in reference to mentality's. Anyone who could be so careless to shine a laser this powerful so close to someone elses eyes. Well I just believe that they could just as easy, point them at aircraft, other people, vehicles on the ground ect, and in doing so get hand held lasers banned!:yabbem:
 
I believe completely defocused @ target range ok but focused at pinpoint accuracy verrry dangerous indeed and only for people that know exactly what they are doing !
 
The one who was getting the haircut had a tooth previously removed with the same laser as-well?
 
Just ignore him. I also would do funny experiments like that, but with heavy rules and glasses.
Thosr guys without rules and savety will keep existing. Nothing we ever can do about it.
