What is/are your favorite book(s)?

Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow series by Orson Scott Card, Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, the Shannara series and Word/Void trilogy by Terry Brooks, anything from the Known Space(Ringworld) series by Larry Niven. Starwars books are good too.

have you seen the TV series based off the sword of truth? It's not that great for me, to be honest.....

Books are always better than screening in the same way original is always better than translation. Nobody can tell the story better than original author.
For example, have you watched Desperation? It's a fantastic novel by Stephen King, but a terrible movie.

The human brain is capable of much more than any special effects department :)

This goes without saying. You can never get all of a book into a movie. The movie would have to be as long as the book, and know one would sit through the whole thing. In parts or not. You're also dealing with the money factor. Companies are not willing to spend the 100's of millions it would take to make the full book into a movie.

I like all of the halo series books, I like the books better than the game, I think the game is a mediocre reproduction of the art contained in the books' pages. :)
-they're by Eric Nylund.

I don't know- avatar in 3D is probably better than anything I would have thought up :).

You may not have been able to "come up with" the story and characters. However, if you had read the story before, the characters would have been much better in your head than in any on screen 3D rendering.

For me the bible is meh. I prefer religious texts like the tao te ching or the Confucian scripts. Never read foundation. However, I really like LOTR, HGttG, I heard flatland is good. A brief history of time is good.

J.R.R. Tolkien - The Silmarillion ( not read yet but heard its awesome and i got it as a present for christmas, i wanted it )
J.R.R. Tolkien - Hobbit ( currently reading it )

+1 for the Old man and the sea -- so soothing and deep, read it on the sea shore during my vacation in Spain last year.

Other than that:
The Master and Margarita
The Alchemist

Also looking forward to read The Idiot when I have time (I mostly read technical literature or articles online, probably like majority here :))

But these are all serious. Speaking of fun books, in my early teens I read Jurassic Park in two days. Dinosaurs were my craze at the time like lasers are now :)

Right on!

Read it long time ago, but that was the one Tolkien I couldn't really get into.

Most people aren't even really familiar with it, usually it's just the LoTR and Hobbit. Have fun reading it though. It's quite a bit different from the others.

I see no mention of Ray Bradbury?
Fahrenheit 451
The Martian Chronicles
I have enjoyed many of his novels and short stories.

You think it was too complicated with a lot of strange names to remember? I haven't read any books so I don't know the difference it might have with the other LOTR books... I was so excited just by looking at the front cover of The Silmarillion and considering I am quite a big fan of LOTR, I decided I should learn more things about it.

Fahrenheit 451
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Martian Chronicles
Dandelion Wine
The Stories of Ray Bradbury (over 1000 pages of his short stories)

These books are all by Ray Bradbury. He is my favorite author without a doubt. I think I like the last one the most.
