What can I harvest from a bigscreen TV?

Does anyone know the Brand that has the Dichro's and PBS inside? I took one apart along time ago that did have them, and now I can't remember the maker. I don't know if it was rear or front projection either.:yabbem:

I know the projectors ("front projection"?) I've taken apart have dichros and an X-cube.

Someone on LPF whom I can not remember got a shock from the caps in a monitor and woke up like 1 hour later.

i can remember taking apart a old TV, it had been unplugged for over a month and when i cut a HV line i got a nice 'boot' from it through my insulated pliers!

Test before touch people and if you cant be good be careful

I got hit with 240VAC 40A when I worked in a metal shop. TWICE! Some guy ran the plug of the bandsaw over with the forklift and then when he rewired it he wired the negative prong to the ground wire. SO the whole frame of the bandsaw was live :scowl:

The first shock I though was from the person welding near me. I figured it jumped through the aluminum dust that always covers the floor after a few hours of work. The last thing I expected was to get hit again trying to use the bandsaw. Feels like getting punched in the chest.


BTW the guy who rewired the plug got fired :banned:

if you're disassembling a projection TV, there are multiple cool things:
huge (>1m square) fresnel lens, can be used to focus the sunlight and burn everything :eg:
HID bulb with PSU (ballast), often capable of outputing 3000 lumens or more
huge first surface mirror
and LOTS of high quality optical parts, such as dichros, smaller mirrors, lenses, diffusers and the previously mentioned splitter cube.
basically, you can build a full RGB laser system out of a single projection TV. last weekend I disassembled the "lower part" of a projection TV, unfortunately the fresnel lens and HID bulb were already gone
