I'll call Avery when I have some free time, but I expect he's signed a
contract or has an agreement to run those ads for some time, maybe 6
months or a year, who knows, hopefully this isn't the case.
I didn't know he was that desperate for money to do such a thng, if he
would have let me know, I would have run a banner; but I won't run an
ad on any site that also has WL ads as I don't want to associated with
WL in any way.

Paying to use an online forum is stupid. If you hate the ads, get a ad blocker! c0ld doesn't put them there to annoy you, it's to get him some money to keep this place free. And it wont only be kids leaving if you have to pay for a membership, I can guarantee you will loose A LOT of members (Which will probably move over to another laser forum anyway).

Yes, it's a wicked lasers ad, we don't like  wicked lasers for various reasons, but it's a freakin banner at the top of a online forum! It's not life threatening, it's not harming you, it isn't popping up infront of everyone's posts and disrupting your reading, and people know better, so just leave it alone.

I've been here on this forum for 2 years now, I know for a fact that this place would die if you charged people for memberships, and that's one of the reasons LPF is so popular, it's free.

Just my little rant, but I seriously don't see what the problem is with a banner sitting on the top of a forum page.

I agree that wouldn't work on second thought, I don't think it would kill the forum per say as make it stagnate. There isn't enough motivation for new members to drop $10 immediately, so they go elsewhere. I'm a little biased because I like the other forum I'm a member of that is pay (nothing to do with lasers). This thread reminded me to donate and the funny part is I don't really care about the wicked lasers issue.  ;D A little reading here makes it clear what they are worth. 360 change on the issue I know. It's silly to get upset over this.

As long as they aren't those horrible ads I had to research to block. Interstitial ads are the worst of the worst (thank you noscript)!

This is a public internet forum. There is life outside the forum, and the internet. Internet reality is not real. People here are nice to talk to, but not to many hang out in real life. My point being the internet is not a way of life, and people on the internet are more pen pals than true life friends. Take a break and get some fresh air little brother because you are getting waaay to rapped up with this. You are young. You should be out chasing girls, hanging with your friends, and getting into trouble. Not getting emotionally hung up with an online forum because they are posting a banner to a company you don't like. Step back and think about that last statement and how silly it is. Life is short, don't waste all of it here. Its only a forum.

Asking people to change their browser just to they can view a forum without ads is silly. That's sort of a sign its gotten out of hand, if your recommending people change their browser due to the volume of ads.

Like homer said, not watching the TV ads is like stealing the channel.

I use AdBlockPlus to get rid of whatever i don't wanna see.
I also have opera for special things, but Ifox theme is so cute that I MUST use firefox

I have to say, the WL ad took me completely by surprise, considering the opinions of most of the members here. I will probably never buy one of theirs myself because they are so expensive, but if they help to keep this forum alive then I have absolutely no problem with them advertising here, even if it is a lame ad. Some of you are concerned about directing unsuspecting newbies to their site, but really, who goes and spends 50, 100, 300 bucks on something they haven't researched at all? And I have a hard time believing that anyone who has done any research at all on this forum could be deceived as to the truth about their lasers, or any other company advertised here. If they buy one after joining this forum then they will be aware of what they are paying for.

On a side note, Wicked does have some redeeming value in my mind. After all, that was the first actual laser site I ever came across. Seeing what they had and reading about their lasers was what got me interested enough that I was willing to buy a 5mW Green for $50. I've always liked lasers, but before then I didn't know anything about different power levels, I didn't even think of building my own, and I didn't know hand-held violet lasers existed. They got me interested enough that I started doing all kinds of research, which is when I found LPF, for which I am extremely grateful. I probably wouldn't be here if it weren't for them.

That said, I don't like their ad, I wish they would change it, but if they are helping to support the forum I don't mind it being there.

same here i was looking at a 200 mw skybolt on techlaser site /laser comminty
when i noticed they were comparing thier laser to a RPL I was like whats a rpl
so I typed in optotronics Rpl and it gave me a youtube site then the LPF (here)
well long story short I came here told Phoenix77 about here and we've been here every since right Rob  :-? :-? ;D ;D ;D
