Violet Laser + Glow-board = Awesome!

I have a GITD marker, which I used to write my name on my wall(in my avatar), i light that up with bluray all the time, but green, or red do absolutly noting for it at all, nor will they do anythig for my GITD dustcaps
I think that the difference is in the GITD material in question, maybee its the foam. My camera is far to crappy to pick up the faint glow I get from other wavelengths, barley picked up my avatar with a 50mW bluray.
here is what I bought:9x12 glow in the dark foam sheet - $2.99 : Modwerx Shop
Its not much money, and its a cool size, pick on up and try it yourself.
But like I said earlier it is a very weird effect, if I hold the laser on the foam for more than a second it makes a DARK spot surrounded by a faint glow. Perhaps it some other reaction other than the normal GITD florecence.

Just a wild guess on my part but maybe the 'afterglow' you are seeing with other-than BR lasers is just the effect they have on one's eyes-- an optical illusion if you will.--HZ

To me it seems like if the wavelength of the laser is shorter than that of the board it glows. So it really just depends on if the glow color is <532nm or >532nm. Also, IR seems to "erase" it.

I thought so as well, like a tracer or something, but it isnt. I tried this with my 635nm atlasnova outputting little over 2mW, put the laser directly on the foam, with no light showing at all, moved the laser across the foam still touching it, and there was a very faint glow line, that vanished in several seconds, but if I hold the laser in one spot for more than a second it makes a DARK spot on the foam, surrounded by a faint glow spot.
I really wish I knew why it is doing this, as its driving me nuts that it isnt supposed to, extreamly weird.

Maybe its the heat not the light making the dark spot.

I thought that as well too, especially because higher powered lasers seemed to make it the fastest, but a 2mW atlasnova doesnt output any heat, and still makes the dark spot:can:

heh, me too. I had to stop thinking about it. Someone should either buy one of those modwerx foam sheets, or ask ndrew2505 to test one out, I dont want to be the only one claiming this. Has to be in a PITCH black room inorder to make out the faint glow

I know IR fluoreces some materials like the IR cards (and that one guy that was selling the 75 dollar IR indicators that also GITD) maybe there is some of the same compounds in the GITD plastic? Maybe its the IR?

Yea me too, so far ive gotten a faint glow line from 532nm 635nm and 650-660nm. I have an 808nm IR maybe I should hit it with that just for kicks:D

Good idea. Do you have a 405? If you do I was gonna get you to see what happens when you make it glow and then run the IR across it. Maybe the IR would erase it.

Heh, i have more 405nm's than i know what to do with, ill go try that now and get back to you with the results, im curios to see how IR effects it

EDIT: Hey congrats on your 1000th post, guess you'll be headed to the vet section now:D
