Last week I spent a few days camping in eastern Oregon. I was off on my own just outside the woods after dark. I was watching the sky, looking for meteors, when I noticed a white light, like an airplane, slowly moving across the sky. But unlike an airplane, it had no flashing lights.
I looked at it through a pair of binoculars, but that didn't help except to confirm that it had no flashing lights on it. For the next several nights I witnessed the same object, or one just like it, again moving across the sky. Sometimes it would be going in the opposite direction from the previous night.
It was not a meteor. I know what those look like, and I saw several during my trip. It also wasn't a satellite, I'm pretty sure, because it appeared closer to earth (thus bigger) than they usually are, and it wasn't moving as fast. I've seen satellites going across the sky many times too, and know what they are like.
Weather balloons are out of the question too, as whatever it was didn't hover, but moved in a straight line slowly across the sky as some planes might.
There were several planes that crossed the night sky as I watched, and all of them had flashing lights. Plus, no matter how far away the planes, I could always eventually (sometimes barely) hear the engine. From the 'mystery light' I heard nothing. The campgrounds and woods were dead silent at night, so if the object made a sound I should have heard it.
Can anyone give me a clue as to what this/these might have been?
