Sounds like political bickering to me...Russian Air Force playing the martyr, make America feel bad for escorting a large Russian aircraft flying offshore of the US. "See? We were only doing sciences for the good of all, not any practice bombing run"

Really, I don't care who practices what, practice makes perfect, just as long as they ain't breaking no agreed-upon rules.
 
Wait a sec. If they bombed yellowstone that could trigger the supervolcano, right? That would be a lot worse than nuking us at that point.

Really that may not be a bad idea. I wonder if they could set off an underground nuke and blow off some steam before the pressure builds up too high. I can remember many many years ago there was some talk of doing this on fault lines in California to prevent the pressure from building up so high that they get a devastating earthquake.

What if just the opposite happened? Imagine the blast actually causing a chain reaction.
 
Lets get a bit of a wager going here. If there is enough interest and enough money at stake then someone will be determined enough to try it! I am putting my money in the Non Global Extinction category! If I lose you can have my house too! Gee I am a good sport! :D

You have a good point there but you don't know the results of an experiment until its been done. Remember there was lots of talk about using a nuke to cap that BP oil well in the gulf that was spewing so much oil and it was considered too risky. Remember the Manhattan Project, there was disagreement among the scientists that it may cause a reaction with the oxygen in the atmosphere and burn the entire surface of the planet, and things were so desperate at the time they did it anyway! There are also still fears of the Large Hadron Collider creating a black hole that will swallow the earth, and I remember a show before they fired that thing up the first time where someone was saying that they used tanks of liquid Helium to cool equipment around the ring and that a catastrophic failure could cause the accelerated particles to impact a tank of liquid Helium and cause a Helium detonation. If you know what that means and you believed it then you wouldn't want to be within a thousand miles of that thing. There are probably many experiments going on right now in laboratories around the world that you wouldn't want to know about.

I agree that the eruption of YellowStone would not be an ELE, but would destroy much of the US and effect global climate for up to several years.

That is true that we don't know until we try it. Going off of avalanche control though, it seems like something similar would happen. They use artillery to launch a round. The blast causes the snow to slide down with nobody around. I'd think something big enough to relieve the pressure along a fault or in a super volcano would also be big enough to cause a bigger unintended reaction.

eruption in Indonesia effected the weather in New England.

Let me say this first, just so you know from the start, I believe the universe is a machine, a computer simulation which allows beings like us to exist, no less real than what most see the the natural world to be, because the machine is built from another out there natural world itself... From this, anything is possible, alternate realities, life after death, any of it. So here's my thought, I've sometimes wondered if when we die too early, we aren't in fact thrown back into another reality without even knowing it, perhaps one identical to the one we left, perhaps a bit different, maybe so different you think you are in hell. Well, I think I must have died and ended up in hell with Obama as president.



Want to do miracles? Just figure out how to edit the code... or pray to the master programmer and see if he might do it for you.

Yea, I know, to some, perhaps most, this is crazy to think that could be our reality, but I am guilty of such from time to time. Do I really think this? I consider it and the idea fascinates me, is our reality a computer simulation? How could I know anyway.... especially, if I'm just programmed consciousness.
