Toxic heavy metal vapor lasers, anyone?

so does this unit only put out 442nm? I remember first reading about HeCd and some were single line and other had other deep UV wavelengths.

None the less its a thing of beauty, and if you looking for a place to put it i have plenty of space  ::)

HeCd lasers are also a popular tool to get 325nm. That are a lot of these hanging around the department where I work. They are used for photoluminescence, and since most everything done in our department is for the gallium nitride system, from near-UV to green, the 325 HeCd is a great tool for that since it can excite everything quite easily.

There are some problems with it and it isn't always ideal, but it's a very popular tool around here, and in a lot of semiconductor labs.

I currently have no working gas lasers :(  My HeNe died after leaving it running on a table for 3 months straight.  It made such a nice nightlight and I couldn't resist.

that's weird that it died.... are you sure it's the tube and not the power supply?

The PSU is still good. I use it for charging HV capacitors now.

You will get a PSU and soon see the HeCd in it's full glory!!! What model is your head anyway?
Oh, as a side note, I got your lasos head today but Haven't had a chance to tinker... I had to play with my new laser first hehehe[/quote]

I had to return the laser head to get the refund. They wouldn't do a partial for the "lost" PSU. I'll keep looking . . . . .

Peace,
dave

Beautiful, Gus!

About the HeNe being on for 3 months... that's over 2000 hours. They only last... What... 3000-1000? Yours was bought used, wasn't it?

I have one of those at work! It's from Liconix 80mW, perfect for holography. This is what should be done with it. :P
You have to power it for at least one hour each month or it will break! Not sure why but that is written in the manual.

I'm glad to see that you got a big laser without the shipping process destroying it !!! Those two big argons were certainly depressing photos to look at. This is much nicer. :) I like the idea of wall mounting it, saves space and shows off the unit well. If you do wall mount it, post some pics. Congrats on an awesome new laser!

All is not well in paradise.

After running it for about 6 hours yesterday, I shut the laser off and everything was great. Well, I went to power it up today and only one of the outputs was firing. The other wasn't even trying to fire, just sitting and doing nothing.

After troubleshooting all day I still haven't gotten it nailed down and would really just like to find another 4240N power supply.

It was so pretty.... I need to see it again :'( :'( :'(

[smiley=engel017.gif] good luck fixing it I was looking forward to seeing more pictures.

ouch :(

I had a computer psu die like that. Shut down and everything was fine. Next morning it was stone dead, not even a peep

Damn! I've got a 400PS if it can help.

Peace,

Dave, does it have two HV outputs or only one? *crosses fingers*

Sadly, No. The 400PS only has one HV socket. I was thinking maybe you might be able to run one side of the tube with it. It is here if you need/want it.

Peace,
dave

I might be able to use the HV unit out of that PSU.... I'm talking with a HeCd 'expert' tonight, I'll let ya know what he says :D
