The REAL Kryton GB round #3. Taking payments now.

Most of the time you don't need it...

But there are situations that the case pin really comes in handy. (like with a Kryton/Micro Boost build - and also a Kryton/FlexDrive, but they can be wired differently than a MicroBoost)

You might want to save this link to pass around for others to see. Because there will most likely be a lot of talk about building Kryton's in the near future!

Getting power fom the case (in clean fashion) on my dual power pointer seemed like my biggest hurdle. I tried drilling a hole and tapping it for a brass/copper screw. It's harder to solder to a screw than you would think because all the heat sinks away from it into the surrounding material. :scowl: So on my dual power pen build in my sig, I drilled a hole that the case wire gets crushed into. Worked but it wasn't pretty, imo.

Wish I would've had Jayrob's insight into using the diode case pin. It seems so simple that I feel like an idiot for not realizing the diode had a ready-made solder point on it. Kinda comical actually... going through all the work and trouble wiring up a Flexdrive for dual power and then not realizing the case connection is the simplest problem to solve ever. :banghead:

I was thinking EXACTLY along these lines as well.

"WTH do I do? Drill a hole and tap it for a tiny screw, and use a teeny ring-terminal?"

If I hadn't read that, I'd have just bent or cut off the third/case pin and then been left scratching my head. :p

Has anyone ever seen clear/red, clear/purple, or clear/blue marble anodizing? I have a feeling it might look slight grey/red, etc which would be even better I think. I have been doing google searches for awhile but haven't turned up anything yet. I think the clear/red, etc might brighten up the host a little as black with the marble look seems to make the host pretty dark in the examples I have seen.

It is hard to visualize but black would probably look better. I still couldn't find any pics on the net of something clear/black or grey/black marble anodized.

The Beast or Best? The Beast will come with a standard focus adapter, if you want the grand daddy, that's extra. Well worth the extra IMO.

Oops. I meant I haven't been able to find an example of clear/purple or clear/red marble anodizing.

sorry beast....

didnt realise this kenom... what do these adaptors do... spent 10 mins looking and cant see them o.O but Ill take the adaptor... how can I pay extra?

These adapters are the grand daddy of all focus adapters. Instead of the entire adapter moving out from the host, this allows you to twist the head without it moving out yet still allows the lens to move closer or further from the diode. Details on how it works can be found here.

It is an additional $30.. and can be paid for with paypal.

There were some earlier questions about wiring with the Micro Boost driver and what to do with the case pin. Well, I was confused and asked Jayrob some more questions to become even more informed. I came up with this diagram to help illustrate exactly how you should wire a kryton Groove or Beast when using a Micro Boost Driver and the host negative. (only when using the case pin, like in blu-ray or 445nm diodes, not red diodes):

That's a good diagram...

Hey Ken, it might be a good idea to put that diagram in the OP...

Because very soon there will be a bunch of Kryton's being built. And many of them will be using the Micro Boost. Which is different from the FlexDrive, and you cant just bend the diode case pin together with the negative pin on the diode like you can with a FlexDrive...

Not a bad idea Jay. I'll put it in my video tutorial when I get them setup.
