the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Well I think rather going on laser and any other thing is better to call and pest control exterminator for killing them.

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Swatter beats laser any time. Electric swatter beats anything. Well .. it has little effect on hornets, sadly, but it owns mosquitoes. Especially because it's easy to kill them in flight with it.
Laser has many problems. For example it is rather bright. If the mosquito sits on white wall, any laser able to kill the bloodsucker would dazzle you, and if you use protection goggles (as you actually should), you would have troubles spotting the poor bastard. If it sits on furniture, any laser able to kill it will damage the furniture. I mean yes, I too tried it .. but its just not practical.
Other insects I simply catch and release outside.

As for hornets .. sometimes they swoop into my room in the middle of night ! I just sit at the computer, killing zombies or something .. and boom, in a moment 5cm hornet is sitting on the screen.
I don't have the nerve to catch THAT alive ! And electric swatter just makes them laugh. I bought freezing insecticide in spray can after my last 'encounter' .. but haven't had the opportunity to test it yet. Not that I miss it ..

I too fried a couple of bugs, with my 500mw 405m, and my 2.5W 445nm. My first kill was a moth as well, and I felt bad for killing it as well.

I have since chosen to follow the same rule as others and focus on annoying bugs. I won't even kill Mayflies anymore. I used to be so compassionate. It seems I still am.

And yes, friends, I do ALWAYS use my eye protection when burning bugs...and, yes it's more difficult. But, I'd like to be able to see bugs when I'm old.

5 year thread revive ftw?

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Good luck killing mosquitos with a laser, you'll need extreme precision and chances are once they feel the burn they will fly away...

Try one of these :)

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

guess, power depends on how "big" they are :D

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

I've killed a couple of house flies with my 500mW 405, they really don't like the heat at all and will try their best to get away. I wore my safety glasses while doing it, because the spot was too bright and made it harder to see the target. Next time I will probably just swat the bug and be done with it.

RETARTS !!! for even replying to this horce crap :) lol

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

200 mw burns the ticks off one of my dogs without hurting the dog (white dog) black dogs just singe the fur. but for white fur/black evil tick: win! much nicer than using a ciggarette (and i no longer smoke) and you do have to burn them to get tthe head out from the skin. cat says NO to lasers and fucks off in a hurry.

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

try that fly trap tape or something?

Re:  the lowest power laser can kill the Mosq

My RPL 300 and Herc pop ants like popcorn ;D

^^ are you aware that the last post in this thread is more than 4 years old??
no big deal but...

BTW hitting a mozzy with a laser is next to impossible
harbor-freight sells the electric swatters for $4 when on sale

it kinda just stuns them - no frying, popping or catching on fire- not very exciting.
you time would be better spent making a spiro or tunnel efx

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

I've always dreamt of a system combining a laser, camera and computer which would detect mosquitoes and shoot them down if if by doing so I'd didn't endanger anything else.
And with the rapid advances in technology it may eventually be possible. You could even use more than 1 laser for increased safety (like 5mW hitting you in the eye for a microsecond isn't that bad but hundreds of those beams hitting the mosquito at the exact same time).

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Well, I think we've found a use for those new 4W 445s that are coming!

Re: the lowest power laser can kill the Mosquito

Aiming is going to be a problem. Are there any lasers that can be aimed with EM fields?

I'm guessing a free electron laser could, but it be nice to hear from some one who has experience with solid state aimed lasers.
