Survival laser kit help

Just a quick question which way are you putting the batteries in, in the SL laser.?

First off,

Happy new year everybody :D

I was kind off busy these days with lighting powders :eg:

Blord is going to send me a test load which should come in one or to days! :D

Then i am going to desolder the diode and take some measurements for you guys!

I will keep you up to date!

Greetings,,

EDIT:

ok guys, i have not received my test load from blord yet. I guess it comes in tommorow!

In the meanwhile i made you a short film of the lasers behaviour:

Very strange first lases then gets dimmer and then turns LED ?

greatings

okay guys

I measured this:

Draw from tailcap: 0.96A fluctuating a little bit
Driver current: fluctuating between 1A and 1,21A

I did this test with two 18650's that both had 4.12V charge

Why did the driver 1.2A While i ordered an 1.5A driver from Garoq?

And does this mean the diode is a gonner? this would be really strange because i did everything by the book!

Let me know guys!

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,,

Very strange. Even at 1A the diode should be much, much brighter than that. I would say that you have a bad diode, especially with the higher than normal voltage that was observed at 700mA.

As far as the current goes, I have no idea why you are getting that reading. Also, it should only fluctuate by a few mA. The driver was tested before shipping, the exact amount measured is written on the pill.

Interestingly, the tailcap current reading is about right. :)

Your testing the driver Wrong.

You Need to Test the Driver In the Volt setting Not in the AMP Setting. Move your + prong wire over to above the - Prong wire.

Then turn your knob 2 clicks from the Off position.

Also can you re take a picture of the bag. Because 5.1V Just sound Off for a 445nm diode. It should be ~4.5V

Normally you measure the voltage between the big resistor in order to calculate the current. But in this case by setting the DMM to amp all the current will flow thru the DMM and you get the same reading.

I think the driver is working fine and the diode is toasted. At 0.9A or 1.2A or 1.5A the 445nm should be bright as hell. Somehow the diode is damaged.

Well this is the bagg flaminpyro shipped me:

The lens and everything are still on (From Garoq)

And this metering is for lazereer:

it said 1.477 What does this tell me? Amps?

So what am i going to do now? Can i still use the driver while it fluctuates? And what am i going to do with the diode? It kinda sucks that it might be broken :yabbmad: It's the most expensive thing on the laser

Thanks for everyones help

The Fluke is measuring 1.477V between the resistor. Apply the Ohm Law, V=I.R

V=1.477V
R=1Ω
and you get I=1.477A

Maybe the M-140 445nm can't handle the 1.5A current. Not all 445nm diodes can reach this high limit.
Try 700mA as the bag said. Only if you have a driver capable of various settings. You need a Flexdrive or a lab psu.
The Garog driver has a fixed output of 1.5A

it is a shame i dont have a lab psu.. Now i cannot test if the diode is working at lower currents or not.. And if i buy a 700mA driver it is still a guess if it works. And in the end i still want a 1.5A beast :p

So any recommendations? of my next move? :p Maybe somebody is willing to ship me a diode that is tested at 1.5A allready? Anyone knows a use for this diode?

thanks,,

You can make a easy LM317 setup on a breadboard. Only if you have the stuff.

Shouldn't a diode's raw output with no optical loss from the lens be MUCH more than 772mW at 700mA?

ok, so i PM'd flaminpyro about this thread and that i need a new diode.. The only thing is that he hasn't been online in three days..

greetings,,
