These can be mounted on other surfaces too, they just need the sticky mount or something to maintain it on the surface.

Considering the sensibility of the laptop hard disks to vibrations, when they are spinning, that guy is doing a very intelligent thing, using the laptop itself as resonator, LOL !

 

[Things]

I remember they used to have electric toothbrushes with a similar concept, a small vibrating mass to produce sound on your teeth.

Only issue with these is, the sound quality is pretty terrible.
