Hey guys, I just recently finished building this baby. I think it was the most time consuming build I've made and most expensive due to diode, polishing, etc. However, it was the most fun!!!
I received this host 2nd hand from another member on BLF for a pretty good price a few months ago. It came with a McCicky switch already installed so that was a plus. I had Jay design me the heat sink with a focus adapter and he did an excellent job as always! The heat sink is pretty massive, it weighs in at 148g!!
All together with the host and focus adapter minus the batteries it weighs 519g which is 1.14 pounds!!! Pretty solid!
Specs:
- Stainless Steel 26650 host
- Copper heat sink
- Copper module
- ML501P73 500mW 638nm diode
- Acrylic lens @ 625mW
- G1 lens @ 804mW
- Draws 1053 mA at the tail
Build Pics:
I originally planned on running this diode at 1400mA using a modified 1050mA AMC driver + 1 added IC, but I ended up frying one of the ICs and well got stuck with 1050mA.
The pill the light originally came with had a 20mm opening and the driver is just 16mm. A nickel was the perfect solution (21mm, 75% copper, 25% nickel). I filed/sanded it down to fit in the pill and doubles as a heat sink for the driver.
Perfect fit! Driver is epoxied to the nickel and set in the pill with a small gold spring soldered on to avoid those moments you drop the battery in too hard and hear that thud.
I could have done this 2 ways to wire the negative feed by using the case pin or soldering it to the pill. I went with option 2, heh a bit messy.
Diode in copper module and ready for lazing!

Finished!

I plan on keeping this beauty for my personal collection. Maybe in a few months I'll redo the driver and output it for 1400mA, but for now its fine as it is. :yh:
:thanks: for looking!
