I got the wrong size part to make a 3A version of my driver. These are about the same size as LM317's but with bent legs for use on SMD pads.

Part#: LM1085D2T by ST Micro
Package: D2PAK

Re: FS: 3A LDO Regulator LD1085 (LM317 type)

Hey guys -

Gobble these up - they're phenominal ICs. They work just like LM317s, and you can pretty much use them in place of LM317s without adjusting your circuit.

Except instead of being limited to ~1.5 A, they'll handle up to 3A, and instead of dropping ~2.5 V like an LM317, they only use about half of that.

This is a great deal too. You won't regret it. I just used this IC (thanks for the tip Jib) in my latest build this afternoon (shameless plug, hehe) and it's an awesome chip to work with!

Thanks rhd! Dropout on these are only 1.5V. They do requires 10uF ceramic input and output caps per the datasheet.

I've been using the 1085s (and 1084s) a bunch since you suggested them. Awesome little chips. As per your suggestion, I just put a 10uF ceramic on the input and output. All in all, it's still < $4 for the circuit.

That's not too bad shipped. You can get them for about $1.90 each at Mouser, so this saves you that cost.

Any chance you could provide the 2 needed 10uF capacitors with the LM1085 for additional cost?

Yes, I do have a very limited amount of extra caps (8). Only $1 extra for each *pair* of caps (IIRC I paid like $0.59 each for these). These are 1206 sized 10V SMD caps from TDK.

Again, I'll attest to the fact that this is a great deal. 10uF ceramic caps aren't dime-a-dozen like aluminum electrolytic caps, etc.

That's great! I'd really like one and a *pair*.

hey jib, by any chance do you know what the adjust pin/reference voltage is on these guys. Im not hijacking the thread, just pm me if you know cuz the datasheet didnt specify the reference voltage so i dont know what value resistors to use cuz i have a few lying around.
