So I dissassebled a whole bunch of DL DVD burners at work today

I'm curious, what was the light source for the lightscribe section of the drive? or is that where people are getting these flat diodes?

The flat diodes are the ONLY diodes in these lightscribe drives. There are no LCC's or any other circular diode attached to the sled.

You might be able to modify an AixiZ module to hold these diodes. Consider ordering 1 to test that theory.

Hmm, so do you have to take the disk out and flip it to write on top of the disk? I guess it just uses the red diode, then. Interesting...

Yes, that's the way it works. It's a photoreactive layer on top of the disk that you literally burn with a laser.

Got my Power Supply today and it seems to be very similar to the one that Boosted98gsx got.

I tested it with my DMM and they both are reading the same. Tried to hook up my red flat diode the way it was in the 22X thread. No Luck. So I slapped on a A140 diode. Must have killed the red diode while trying to pry it out of the housing.

You do know your degrading your 445 running it at 2A right? They don't LED easy but facet damage does happen at an accelerated rate over 1.8A. At least that's what the only real testing i've seen of them has shown.

I should have mentioned this diode is already pretty screwed up. So I am not worried if I kill it.

Here is the raw diode output.

Ouch heh. That is pretty nasty looking.

This has been my torture test diode. The amazing thing with this little trooper is it just wont die. It just seems to shut of at around 2.1A and then come back when you turn the juice down. And I can still get 1440mW on my LPM with this little guy.

Yeah. I've seen that behavior before, but with that output, high currents have still certainly taken their toll on the facets. They aren't bulletproof.. but close heh.

Definitely taken a toll.:eg: Here is a comparison and why I am so amazed I can get 1.4W out of it.

I recommend you pick up a GGW sled from Kendall(sk8er4514) >>here<<, he is also in Arlington, so shipping will be really fast.

That sled has both a high power blu-ray(6x) and red diode (referred to as LCC).

I also have a limited supply of these GGWs if I can help. I'm trying to clear some space so if you want one then have a look here too -

The double diodes from this sled is a great bonus!

Enjoy,

I'm located in east Fort Worth, Eastchase/I-30 area. Y'all get this figured out, I'd like to assemble my own laze one day.

Anybody got a LPM, I'd like to compare mine to yours. I think mine is accurate but it would be nice to compare meters.
